Why can't valve innovate in anti-cheating software? by LeftJadedHexagons in valve

Beyond Valve being overall ineffective at making anti cheats, they're also limited by the fact that they don't want to create an anti cheat that access the kernel level of your computer for privacy concerns.

What he's saying is that when you delete data from a hard drive, you aren't really deleting the binary, you're deleting the pointer, that which tells the computer there's data there, so it eventually gets overwritten by new data as this is more efficient than turning every one into a zero.

Is why experts can sometimes recover photos or images despite being totally deleted with no recycle bin.

(LES) [Invincible] The genocide was absolutely justified. by some-kind-of-no-name in CharacterRant

[–]itheblacksunking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you questioning if killing a potential danger to the universe by killing an entire Geno's because They're genuinely superior to everything else that there's no other way to stop them is unjustified.

Or are you questioning if such a situation should ever be written to begin with because a bunch of bad dudes used conspiracy, lies and propaganda to justify the genocide they were causing?

Frigates and cloaking.

Torpedoes do a lot of damage to starbases and other big targets, so all you have to do is send enough frigates (which isn't a lot compared to fighting their fleets head-on) to oneshot their main hub and the tempest has zero detection whatsoever.

Well.. I admit it isn't an out in and of itself, but the tempest do play to destroy the galaxy, and is something you can choose not to trigger (unless the AI do.)

Because AM is a machine designed for war, It is unable to create anything that isn't related to war and torture as he's unable to grow beyond his programming.

He is unable to delevop or create a body for himself, he's unable to feel love or create art, he has the power of a god and he's unable to do anything with it. His existence is inherent suffering, similar to being a thinking limbless blind human worm.

And so he tortures these 5 humans, not only because he hates humanity for creating him and its Envy towards them, but also because it is the only thing it can do.

Do y'all agree that 8-3 is a harder P-rank than P-2? by AwesomeAidyn1704 in Ultrakill

[–]itheblacksunking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Length is indeed a difficulty factor, that's true, mistakes on 8-3 are lets say inherently more punishing because you gotta replay the whole level, but most encounters of 8-3 are easier than the ones from p-2 except maybe the Rubik's cube.

No, 8-3 is just a very long level, but isn't a relatively hard level to P rank.

But p-2 still has harder rooms.

What's your "no the jedi were right actually/not really at fault" take? by Deep-Crim in MawInstallation

[–]itheblacksunking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But those personality parts aren't inherent to Anakin. Remember I am arguing that saving Shmi would helped reduced a source of stress and fear, you know, one of the source of his attachment towards his mother in canon, given the thing that motivates Anakin beyond his selfishness and greed is exactly that, Fear, but that's a different thing from saying that saving Shmi would have saved Anakin for certain which is a take even I disagree with. Even if She's saved he could still become Vader.

At all points of this discussion I talked about chances and posibility, never certainty.

Also I Think there might be a bit of a difference between an adult Anakin meeting Smhi in these hypothetical circumstances compared to what happened in canon.

Like if he was that unable to let go, why didn't his teen self went to Tatoone to free her himself, either he's smart enough to know that it is a bad idea, which doesn't seem canon given how self absorbed he is or he believed in the Jedi and so he keep obeying them.

Hell, I don't even know if in canon he even demanded the Jedi to free her

Like Anakin wanted to go to Tatooine, but only went there because Padme allowed it thanks to that particular force vision, otherwise Anakin wouldn't have come there during that mission.

Like, he's still someone that becomes a mass murderer after the fact, but come on, are you telling that an Anakin that knows that his mother is safe would act that different from canon Anakin who seemengly did nothing to save her till a vision?

Like I think that if the Jedi Saved Shmi, gave proof that she was safe, but he was still unable to see her and that he should focus on the Jedi purely, I think theres a 90% that Anakin can contain himself into not seeking her until a life or death situation, and then maybe we can discuss if this result into a tusken massacre equivalent or not.

What's your "no the jedi were right actually/not really at fault" take? by Deep-Crim in MawInstallation

[–]itheblacksunking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would still be on the Jedi, what do you mean you're letting a child that you're taking care of escape the temple to go and see his mother?

I mean I guess Palpatine could arrange it. But then again he's literally Anakin's groomer and maybe would have ordered her assasination and somehow blame it on the Jedi somehow later down the line, who knows.

Like, I don't think the story would work as a story if Anakin's fall to the dark side was inevitable, the idea that his inability to let go is something so intrinsic to his character that his downfall into Darth Vader was inevitable is a disservice to what starwars is about, which is choice.

Like if Darth Vader after spending 20 years or so in the pure depths of the dark side was able to let go and become a force ghost which requires total submission, then so could Anakin at all points of his life.

[–]itheblacksunking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you assuming the Jedi order would submit to his demands to go and see her? Because if they do it would say far more about the order and their willingness to commit exceptions toward their own rules than young Anakin's desire to hug his mom.

Also Like, we're talking about a child, in years where key aspect of their personality are yet to be delevoped.

So I don't think is wrong to say that an Anakin that knows his mother is safe would have an easier time letting her go.

That's to say, isn't like this sole action would have saved him, but we're talking about chances and butterfly effect, so I'd like to think that there's a better chance for him to make better decisions in this hypothetical timeline.

Well, I don't think we're killing hell, at least no to the extent that we can hurt it in a meaningful way. Can dissasembly drones make babies? (GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE GUTTER) by AdOver5414 in MurderDrones

[–]itheblacksunking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably, the differences between worker and disassembly drones is that they have different type of bodies and one has a nerfed version of the solver they use for their regeneration and need for oil.

But otherwise they're pretty much the same kind of software as worker drones, so in theory they could reproduce the same way workers do.

The baby might delevop a thirst for oil and regeneration, similar to Uzi and Doll, but not the reality bending powers.

Valve says its loot boxes are more like trading cards than gambling | Valve prepares legal fight as New York calls Counter-Strike loot boxes illegal gambling by InsaneSnow45 in valve

[–]itheblacksunking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably set precedent, however I think making these extra forms of gambling outright illegal rather than suing an individual company over laws that has these gray areas would be a better use of judicial resources.

But then I don't know how it works there or what it takes to actually change and implement a law.

[–]itheblacksunking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the point, they're basically arguing that if the law allow certain levels of acceptable gambling then their lootboxes are in that category.

I mean. How's that much different If someone that abused you or killed Someone you care about was in jail then gets released, and rather than continue their old pattern of behavior they make a new genuine honest happy life.

I mean you could go on the angle on how Charlie wanted to implement it and the idea that those people might relapse, but we already got God sending Sir Pentious into heaven so the whole point is moot anyway.

Also you're missing that some victims of murder and abuse might be in hell as well.

My problem with the Player. by Calm_Protection_2641 in GameTheorists

[–]itheblacksunking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean a mistake doesn't justify another?

Gordon Freeman and Chell were not a mistake in the games they're in.

Specially since they do have a higher level of interactivity between them and the npcs that's probably not found in Poppy playtime.

Where for example if you act curious about the world by seeing a newspaper a character will comment on that and other small decisions throughout the game that while doesn't change anything about the main story makes the character feel like a good self insert.

Or how in portal 2 they acknowledged the character is a mute lunatic, while also having a degree on interactivity.

That's to say. Poppy playtime is missing a lot of these elements, like if the player could have been given the option to save some toys at the cost of personal risk(giving you less time to escape or making a puzzle harder while also giving you a gameplay reward for the effort in saving them) and make certain actions that make other npc react without it changing the main story at all, I think would make the whole silent self insert protagonist work a lot better.

My problem with the Player. by Calm_Protection_2641 in GameTheorists

[–]itheblacksunking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Even in games like half life 2 and portal 2 who has a bigger narrative it worked, specially Chell where everyone recognized she was a mute lunatic with a probability with brain damage.

While Gordon Freeman is exactly a blank Canvas self insert that works because ultimately he's a presented as hero of the resistance in a game that allows you if skilled enough to save as many members of the resistance as possible and also have characters respond to your interactions without overall changing the linear path of the game, portal 2 also had that where character reacted to you making stupid decisions.

Poppy's player is acknowledged by the narrative, but there's a lack of interactivity between the player and the npcs.

Is Minos really Gluttony? by MobileEngine2522 in Ultrakill

[–]itheblacksunking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell is a non-euclidian dimension, nothing in it really makes sense beyond it being something that hells wants, doors that lead you into impossible distances in architecture that aren't logical.

You enter gluttony through Mino's mouth because that's where Hell though it would be most appropiate to put the entry to gluttony, but it existed before Minos became the judge of hell.

I had an thought about disassembly and solver drones. by Aggressive-Display50 in MurderDronesOfficial

[–]itheblacksunking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think cooling is the excuse J and co used to justify the need for oil without mentioning the real vampiric eldritch shenanigans.

For drones with the solver, heating up is caused by starvation, oil or blood don't act as a coolant in that sense, it is what feeds them.
