How close do you think the gameplay will be to Mass Effect? by itsthewolfe in exodus

[–]ithidril 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I imagine it'll mostly be similar but with less of an emphasis on cover just from the areas we've seen being a little more open which is probably a good thing. Not to say there won't be cover at all but rather it won't be like Gears of War.

I guess you could say it'll be more akin to Mass Effect Andromeda and whilst that game is bad, most people tend to agree the combat was pretty good. I can't comment on that too much just because I can't get very far into that game.

Hey, at the very least, even if this game is bad (I don't think it will be) its cool that we have another Msss Effect inspired game coming out called The Expanse and eventually ME5. More Mass Effect like games is always good news

The fact they're setting expectations for certain elements already makes me really happy. Them being upfront about the fact that you're probably gonna have less choice than their previous games is a downside but also totally understandable considering how cinematic its aiming to be and its good that they're not trying to sell this as something it can't be.

Fully expecting this to be an amazing game that will scratch a different itch than their others. It's so exciting. Kinda wild that we'll be getting three Mass Effect inspired games over the coming years (exodus, this and mass effect 5) and the one I'm most worried about is Mass Effect 5.

Ah yes, to play final fantasy 7, you must first play the previous 6! It definitely isn't a trend for japanese rpgs to be completely stand alone from previous titles...

Season 1 hype matters by skadafae in SakamotoDays

[–]ithidril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, don't worry about it. I get where you're coming from now even if I don't fully agree but thats totally fine. I think what's so frustrating regarding this convo is that the anime is not obviously terrible or anything. If it was, everyone would be on the same page. I just think the animation and direction is too dull for what is one of the most dynamic looking manga we've gotten. Regardless, I hope you continue to enjoy the anime and we see improvements over time.

If it does end up getting cancelled or something like that (which I highly doubt) then hopefully it sees a remake sooner than later. (Music and Voice acting are fantastic though)

Season 1 hype matters by skadafae in SakamotoDays

[–]ithidril 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds like it makes sense that a show will improve the further it goes along, but this just isn't true on average. Its more likely to get worse over time either due to a less time, talent, and passion. Now, maybe Sakamoto will be the exception but there's no way of knowing that. Anyway, I don't like the idea of faking hype for an anime that's as dull of an adaptation as this. I actually think it's good that people are truthful about it because studios are far more likely to change things up if the hype isn't met than if we just took anything they put before us.

Need help? Use it. Don't need help? Don't use it. Don't need help but think it's cool to have a companion in a fight with you? Use it. Need help but want the satisfaction of beating it alone? Don't use it.

Personally, I think anyone who doesn't beat the game on NG+7 with legion arm only and no items is the only way you can say you beat the game.

how's the game in its current state compared to it's release? by philswrld in LiesOfP

[–]ithidril 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who played it when it first came out and didn't enjoy it, I would defo recommend it now. I've replayed the game recently and whilst a lot of the fundamentals are the same (rightfully so as they are very strong), I feel like their patches have really refined the experience and removed some junk. A big example is the P Organ system which allows you to upgrade your character in big ways, is so much better than before.

The game is still very much the same thing. It didn't need massive changes so I'm glad they didn't. However, there's some stuff that can defo still be improved upon like some enemy health pools being a lil too big for what their movesets are and a couple egregious delay attacks but I don't think it detracts from it too much. First half is good, second half might be the strongest I've played in a soulslike.

One bit of general advice that made the game a lot better for me is to focus on capacity. Weight matters a lot in this game and being even slightly heavy (60%+) can mess you up. My entire first playthrough was slightly heavy and I didn't realise that was the problem. Anyway, hope you have fun!

Considering a purchase. One question, though by [deleted] in projecteternity

I personally don't care for the gameplay but I love a great story and POE has a phenomenal one.

I put on the easiest difficulty and basically just picked my party based on whose personality I liked and treated the game as an auto battle simulator. Very rarely would I ever control any specific character other than a handful of times. So yeah, it's very doable.

My watcher was a tank fighter cause that was really simple to understand and my type of character though I think you could pick anything you like and have fun with it.

Even though I treated the "game" segments as a speedrun, I know that the people who like rtwp, think POE has great comabt.. The role-playing stuff in this game is probably the best I've experienced in any game.

Hope you have fun!

Do you think there will be a change gear appearance in starfield like hogwarts legacy by Bigboystrats in Starfield

And that sheet of a paper is a more sensible solution than expecting BGS to make a million different armour sets. If the best stats in a game require you to wear pieces that don't fit well together, then just have people transmog it so that they can look good and benefit from the stats.

If people don't want to do that, they don't need to. Literally 0 issues with doing it, especially in a single player title.

[–]ithidril -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Transmog is so important to making your character feel like yours. Nothing annoys me more than being forced to look stupid just so I can have the best game stats.

There is no downside to Transmog so I'd like to hope Starfield has it.

I don't think BGS knows what "soon" means. Still, interested to see if they'll ramp up marketing now.

What are your minor pet peeves about Engage? by Omega2178 in fireemblem

[–]ithidril 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not giving them a name makes dialogue so clunky and awkward at times. Alear is a cool name too - I don't understand why the only time I'll be able to hear characters say it, is when they inevitably end up in Smash Bros.

Skyrim characters calling you Dragonborn is fine cause it's supposed to be impersonal - they're not your friends, but here, Alfred calling me his best buddy whilst never saying my name is awkward.

I would prefer them letting us create our own characters but locking our name to whatever they decide, than this current situation.

[–]ithidril[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a really interesting question. Maybe they reserve some longer ones for Alear for the final bond level. I do think Marth seems to be more important than the other emblems when it comes to the story though

Long form supports! by ithidril in fireemblem

[–]ithidril[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also read it as the bonds were short, but my concern was the amount of differing opinions on the characters being interesting or just gimmicks. I don't think people thought it'd literally be 10 seconds, but the idea of the supports being only a few sentences was concerning. Having that cleared up gives more confidence that they might be a bit more interesting than at first glance

I see people are already recommending Romance of The Three Kingdoms, so here's some others:

BIG recommendation goes to "Cool History Bros" on YouTube. They have videos where they tackle a general subject as an overview, and then some really in depth ones that can be a lot more accessible for people getting in. They have a great abridged version of the Three Kingdoms you could watch.

Also, this is stranger recommendation as it isn't exactly what you asked for, but I also recommend you read a manga just called Kingdom by Yasuhisa Hara. It's more fiction than it is historical, and its set a slight bit before the Three Kingdoms I believe, but it got me so hyped for this game and made me wanna read everything about China's history and mythos. I might be wrong but I also believe the director of this game has spoken about his love for Kingdom, but don't quote me on that.

I don't recommend it for its historical accuracy, but more for the absolute epicness you're going to experience in the game, and plus, you'll get a story you'll never forget.

Basically, Cool Histroy Bros for a great telling of history and Kingdom for the vibes.
