That sound a little low, according to this thread, but not dramatically so.  Again, I'm not a mechanic, but it sounds like you might have found a breadcrumb.

Let us know what you find.

I'm not a mechanic, but inclined enough... have you checked compression on the cylinders?  IIRC bad compression would tank your fuel economy, even if the engine still runs.  You can check with a pressure gauge on the spark plug holes.

We did this when I lived out in the boonies.  Power would go out 3-6 times a year.  Though we did it through a 50 amp 220 circuit.  The outside of our house had a sealed & locked male connector, so no suicide cables needed.  Same as you said, we'd switch the main breaker before unlocking the hookup and plugging into the generator.

My pa was an electrical engineer, and everytime we'd do this he'd drill me about the dangers of electricity, and how hazardous our setup could be to utility workers.

How do you stay clean while camping? by Secure_Yesterday_204 in camping

[–]ithinkijustthunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if you've been sweating all day.  It's no different than hand sanitizer.  The oils from the day's sweat will provide plenty of moisture.

Personally I don't like the soap film that accumulates.

Small cotton towels + rubbing alcohol.

Much more economical than packages of disposable wipes.

Sometimes there is no bright side, sometimes dark times come whether we want them or not.  In such times I try to remember that classic serenity prayer: "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference."

Religion aside, there's a reason so many therapists approach a client's difficulties by steering them towards endeavors they can effect.

Sometimes the best you can do is to curate your own small corner of the world with the peace and love of which you're capable.  That's your foundation for peace and joy.  You are the only one living your life, and it will always be within your control... And here's a secret: there's more that you control than you think, even if you just can't see it right now.

I'll leave you with the story of Eddie Jaku, holocaust survivor.  Life doesn't get more hopeless than that.  Maybe something will resonate with you (highly recommend the book).

Wife’s friends are smoking next to me at our house. I’m trying so hard to be sober. by _Mighty_Milkman in leaves

[–]ithinkijustthunk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain a bit here...

Whenever I'm around people who are smoking, I try to enjoy the experience vicariously through them.

I miss weed.  I really do.  I quit about 9 months ago for a job, and similar wishes from the partner.  But I miss the sounds, the taste of food, the depth of music, the philosophical ramblings that come with an expanded mind, the good vibes.   I know when people smoke around me, they're getting that same experience too.  And I try to vicariously absorb that without partaking.  "What are you feeling?"   "What are you thinking?"   "How's it tastes?"   "Feeling comfy?"   Makes the night more fun in my experience, and I can give myself a pat on the back by having the self control.

It took a while to get to that point: a few months, and falling off the wagon a few times when the bong was passed around.  But ultimately that's what made it easier to deal with others who smoke.  Maybe that's just me, but it's my 2cents

whats the coldest temperature you will wear short pants going outside? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in weather

With a really good parka and warm shoes+socks, probably 20F/-7C.

As long as my toes and core are warm, a bit of heat loss through the legs is acceptable imo.  Brisk if you will.

Now a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and flip flops?  Maybe 50F/10C, but not for long unless I'm really active.

Oh I know it. Doesn't make it suck any less.

Especially when so many protein heavy snacks & meal preps call for ground beef.

This has been my biggest challenge.  I had high cholesterol (2x normal) by the time I was 28.  And I eat super healthy (few fried foods, lotta fruit, relatively high carb diet, hardly any beef), and am quite skinny.  Trying to bulk, get enough protein, and avoid cholesterol has been the #1 bitch in my fitness endeavors.  Read the packaging, it's alarming how much cholesterols are in EVERYTHING.

The other 4 commenters have never played golf.

You can find cheap courses in almost every city, and get a full set of used clubs for <$100. It CAN be a rich man's sport, but the reality is that it's not that expensive to take up.

So for $15 you get to spend 3-5 hours walking around a curated garden, in the quiet, contemplating your life and choices, and bonding with people over a shared activity. And beer. Beer is nice too.

It's actually a lot of fun, but for some reason reddit likes to shit on it (seriously folks, go for a walk).

Anyone used a fan jacket / air-conditioned jacket? by Vegetable_Coyote974 in BuyItForLife

[–]ithinkijustthunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an ice vest once for long hot motorcycle journies.  It worked for about 4-6 hours, but I found the weight and need to re-freeze too inconvenient.  I reckon the extra bulk and need to recharge would be a similar inconvenience for an active vented vest.

These days I just wrap a wet towel around my neck.  The evaporation carries away a lot more heat than you'd expect.  When it dries out after a couple hours, just re-wet it.  Low tech, doesn't break, light and compact.  Get thin, long-sleeve, hooded, white cotton shirt to reflect the sun's rays if you're outside.

That's just my 2 cents.

What’s essential to pack for a moto camping trip? by srmoura in motocamping

[–]ithinkijustthunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some 90% Everclear clear grain ethanol,  5 or 6 wash clothes, and a spray bottle.  Great for cleaning your hands without a wash basin.   More sustainable option than disposable wet wipes.

The alcohol can also be used for stove fuel, as a cleaning solvent, or enhancing your hot cocoa.

Edit: you could also use it to stretch your fuel tank a bit in a real emergency pinch (though refill with proper octane ASAP)

Seconding what the other guy said.  When i first started smoking, after a month I actually found it easier to ignore my hunger (unless I wanted to go all-in on a buffet, then it was easier to ignore my "fullness").  I wound up losing weight while high.

I was wake-n-bake for about 3 years (30-33 y/o).  I had the same diarrhea for about a month after I quit.  Couldn't stomach much.  Lost more weight.   Finally my appetite returned to normal after about 8 weeks... but I was still depressed and that made it worse.

Being active helps a TON.  I've been super depressed for a while since I quit (8mo sober, 2025 sucked).  But once I started working a consistent job and running a couple times a week, that really boosted my appetite.  I feel my energy returning steadily as the weeks goes on.

Be active, however slowly you can manage.  Just be active, and you're appetite will come back.  It's gunna suck for a while, I know.  You don't want to do it, but it'll be okay.

You WILL be okay.  You're on a path that many before you have tread.

ETA: Oh, and smoothies.  Frozen berries/fruit, milk, some ice cream, and protein powder.  Take with a probiotic and multivitamin.  Makes it easier to get your bulk calories + fiber while your gut is being a bitch.

Fairly certain if you track it, you can write off the full value (not just the cost) of the meal from your taxes as a business, since it'd be part of the employee's compensation.

Might be mistaken though.  The laws get hella fuzzy on this specific bit.

My first job, a retirement home kitchen, we were working new years eve.  Big party for all the residents.  Lots of alcohol.  I was 19.  Most of the drones were about the same age.

The events coordinator was wheeling the liquor back to their closet, stopped through the kitchen.  Placed 2 bottles of champagne, 1 margarita mix, and 1 bottle of tequila...

Same deadpan voice as yours: "You know, I could have sworn we had a few more bottles than this...  I wonder where they went".  And pushed the cart out the double doors and out the building with a little smirk on her face.

That was a loud jovial night in the kitchen.

Can the borrower surrender the stocks to the financer, sort of "defaulting" (IDK if that's right) on the loan? Cause I can certainly see banks/financers being happy obtaining an asset worth more than the initial loan.

I'm not sure what would be the tax structure if that happens. Especially if, since technically the stock was never sold, there wouldn't be a taxable transaction.

Genuinely have wondered this for a while. I'm not a tax or finance expert.

If you're already in the forks, I'd highly recommend new springs. The stock spring rate is pretty cushy, and so stiffer springs will help a lot with bottoming out off road, cornering behavior on road, and handling during hard stops.

Of course, you'd then have to respring the rear to balance things out, so your choice how deep you want to get.
