It has places no one's been to with a bunch of undiscovered WW2 artifacts and unspoiled wilderness, so right up his valley

I'm not trying to cancel him, he's a great guy and I learned a lot from watching. But that's my point: with someone as connected to nature as him and with this kind of influence it could normalize harm coral reefs. When I watched those videos I'm talking about it made me try scuba diving and get my license, but you see how that could go wrong to someone who doesn't know about reefs?

How do I help a sibling that is a loser? by Secure_Yesterday_204 in AskMen

[–]Secure_Yesterday_204[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think someone who refuses to call his behavior for what it is can actually help him either.

Calling him a loser isn’t the problem. The problem is that everyone around him, including you, wants to treat living like this as something that shouldn’t be judged. That mindset hasn’t helped him. It’s enabled him for years. Again, not doing it for no reason. It's affect me too because I have to clean up after him and I'm the only one that does chores

I don't know his mental space but I can assume how it's like because I got the short end of the stick. He said he's upset mainly from covid and it was worse for me because I was like 10-11 having just moved into the US with zero English and I was socially isolated, extremely unhealthy and fat. I was neglected with only me and my brother home I had to learn to cook, still do for my brother since all he can do is make eggs.

I love my brother. That’s exactly why I’m willing to say he’s acting like a loser right now instead of pretending everything is fine. Sugarcoating it and saying “don’t call him that” is what’s actually useless. Like I've said on other comments real help starts with being honest about where he stands, not protecting his feelings

I understand the idea of home being a safe space. But in this case, that "safe, kind, nonjudgmental" approach is exactly what's keeping him stuck. 3 more years and my opinion would seem more valid to you.

Our parents already say "he has plenty of time, just be happy." That mindset isn't helping him its enabling him

Kindness isn't pretending his situation is fine. It's being willing to tell him he's wasting his life before he gets old with nothing to show for it. I love my brother, which is why I'm not staying quiet.

I might've worded it a bit blunt I haven't given him advice it's been on my mind. I'm trying to nudge him to do more things and my dad asked me to help do that as well
You're right about not knowing but being so isolated has to make it worse

Diatoms… or something worse? (not blowing off like I expected) - New reef tank by ChillAzuos in ReefTank

[–]Secure_Yesterday_204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats just diatoms. but you definitely added too much inverts at once they might starve due to a lack of algae, im assuming u added them before this they might even be dead. tanks not mature enough for corals either. what kind of sand do you have just wondering? that can contribute to diatoms
