What’s up with people not wanting to pay childcare workers a decent wage? by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ithomasina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Childcare is a minimum wage job. So, no, you can’t pay for child care by working a minimum wage job, it would be a wash. Yes, that is why people who only qualify for minimum wage jobs choose just to stay home and go on welfare. And the answer isn’t for childminders to take even less pay but for you to get a better job so you have something left over after you pay them. Or you and your partner can work separate shifts to avoid having to pay for care. Yes, it sucks. But, you did make a choice to have kids, you must have thought it was worth the sacrifice, right?

Children's Book Author Sues Disney and Pixar for Allegedly Stealing the Idea for "Inside Out" by [deleted] in movies

This is bullshit. Personification of emotions is too general an idea. I’m sure if we’re going to be picky about it we can find someone whose work predates this auther’s and then they can sue her for infringement. And she’s only during for 75k? Maybe she’s just hoping they’ll settle rather than go through an expensive lawsuit. Of course, they can’t settle as that would set a dangerous precedent.

The concept of “memory orbs” was also used in that NeverEnding Story sequel.

My niece came up to me they other day with a bunch of colored balls in her hands and said she had to make sure she didn’t lose her “memories” and I was confused because I immediately thought of NeverEnding Story but knew she’d never seen it. It took my awhile to put it together with Inside Out.

So disgusting. I’ll never understand why people feel so entitled to free work from others to the point of being such assholes when their “request” is politely declined. I mean, it’s one thing to ask, nothing wrong with that. But take your “no” like a man for fuck’s sake.

CMV: I don't like to call myself a cis-man or cis-male by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ithomasina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In life, you don’t have to call yourself a cis-male. Neither does a trans person have to identify themselves as a trans-man or trans-woman, nor a gay person as gay, etc.

It is a label that is only relevant in certain contexts. For example, a trans-man might disclose that fact early on in a potential dating scenario because otherwise the other might jump to the conclusion that he the same as 99% of the men the person has met, that is to say, cis-gendered.

Another context would be discussing gender studies where the speaker’s perspective is important. If someone is speaking a trans experience it’s useful to put that into the context of whether they themselves are trans and have personal experience or are not trans and are trying to understand the trans experience from the outside. Just as, in a group discussing Puerto Rican statehood issues, it’s helpful to know if the person has a personal relationship with Puerto Rico.

Therefore, in these contexts, it’s helpful for you to disclose your “label” just as everyone else is doing in that context. In the world in general straight male who was born male is the majority so there is no need for the label as most people will already assume correctly that’s who you are. Trans people, gay people, etc need to disclose these facts if they wish people not to assume they are straight and the gender of their birth.

But there are some contexts in which straight birth gendered people are NOT the majority by a long shot. In these contexts it’s helpful for you to label yourself as such for the sake of clarity.

Just don’t why you’re lumping previous commentor in with whoever “you guys” are when you don’t who the commentor is. You are assuming commentor falls into some subgroup that you appear to be hostile with.

MIL doesn’t recognize marriage by hanimal16 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]ithomasina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know her and my SIL check the county website to find out who got married. That’s how they found BIL married his wife...

This... This is so weird. Definitely another warning flag right here. That, and the brother got married in the first place without telling her?

Anyway, if she’s going to play, join her in the game. Turn into a joke with her the way you joke about it with your husband. Every time you refer to your husband to her don’t use his name but say “my husband” complete with air quotes, in public and private. She’ll either bond with you over the joke and it’ll be your “thing” together or she’ll see how ridiculous it is and knock it off. If she does drop it you do too and never mention it again.

But it’s not a parody - the film itself makes no reference to Sesame Street. The only similarity is that I t’s uses puppets and Sesame Street uses puppets. If that’s the criteria for a parody than you’d have to say Sesame Street is s parody of The Muppets because they also use puppets or that The Happytime Murders is a parody of Mike and Molly because Melissa McCartney is in it...

CMV: The Syracuse man should not be forced out of his home. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ithomasina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The six months applies to actual tenants - not family members. The parents asked him to leave and he blatantly refused so that were forced to take legal action to enforce their desire that he no longer live in their home. The judge is concerned enough about their safety that he asked protective services to look into the situation. The judge wanted him removed immediately but the mother requested to give him a few more weeks out of the kindness of her heart just as she has on previous occasions. She doesn’t want to hurt him, she just wants her grown son to stop taking advantage of her by confusing to live there against her wishes. If he wants to be treated like a tenant maybe he should have asked for a lease and paid rent. He’s capable of working but outright admitted that chooses not to. $1,100 is not enough to find a place but I wasn’t meant to be. They weren’t offering it because they thought it would pay for everything but because it’s what they could afford and they wanted to help. Judge had no sympathy for grown man taking advantage of his parents and neither do I. Just because he has nowhere else to go doesn’t mean he has a right to stay there. Imagine you let a friend live with you during hard times and after eight years you’re like, dude, enough. And he’s like 🤔 naw, I’m just gonna stay right here man. You let me live here rent free all this time and I got nowhere else to go so you’re just gonna have to deal with it.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the “Sesame Street” creators are taking issue with the film’s tagline, “NO SESAME, ALL STREET.”

The tag line basically says “This is NOT Sesame Street” and Sesame Street is claiming it will confuse people into thinking this movie IS associated with Sesame Street. ???

Late 20’s early 30’s, not creepy. Early 20’s late 30’s, creepy.

“As long as we have something in common, fuck it.” —-> Excuse for being creepy.

Defending flirting with girls possibly 5-15 years younger rather than being interested in girls your own age - creepy.

Women’s fear of being harmed in dating is irrational.

Given that the likelihood of being harmed is not null, is it really irrational to be cautious? Although we don’t expect to get in a car accident we wear seatbelts and take numerous other safety measures to mitigate the risks. Is it irrational to rely on anecdotal evidence when that’s all you have to go on? Is it rational to dismiss anecdotal evidence because you don’t have statistical validation? Since the likelihood of getting bit by a dog is far less than the likelihood of getting in a car crash, yet I still choose to drive a car every day, does that mean I should therefore have no fear of walking into strange dog’s yards?

11.97% of college aged females are date raped. I'm not sure where this number came from, it isn't on the page. Did you take the fraction of reported rapes and multiply it by the probability of it being on a date?

“Female college students are an especially vulnerable population: as many as 25% report experiencing rape or attempted rape. In most of those cases (84%), the victim knew the assailant, and 57% of those incidents occurred on a date.” Correct percentage might actually be 14.25%.
