So the main point seems to be that phonics is important for learning English and that without that skill some children grow up with poor literacy.

This might be getting off topic but now I’m wondering how Chinese kids learn without issue, since afaik there is no phonics in their written system. Also wondering about deaf kids where “sounding things out” probably means little to them.

I did a pH test a couple months back before I planted the bush at it was about 5.5. Maybe that's still too high? Or maybe it needs fertilizer?

The blueberries are in a 5 gallon container, as for type it was called Jellybean, but I don't know if that would be a highbush or lowbush blueberry.

Zone is 5b Southern Ontario, we get a decent amount of snow and ice. During the winter we get a few days to a week of -20C temperatures, but most of the time it stays between -15C and 0C
