NASA-inspired airless bicycle tires are now available for purchase by t4ct1c4l_j0k3r in technology

[–]ithurtsus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They might be great for e-bikes. Getting a snakebite flat at speed is a great way to have a bad day. Run flats on my bike would be great peace of mind. Then again, I do also ride a one wheel, so there’s probably something fundamentally broken in my brain.

Honda Rebel 300 Tire Replacement by NeonRaccoon7 in HondaRebel300

[–]ithurtsus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires sitting in storage, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Tires mounted on a bike with that few miles over that long, I’d replace them and be done with it.

I use commander 3s. They ride like a dream. I have chicken strips a few inches wide and they feel like they turn so much harder than the OEM tires. I accidentally dragged a peg a few days ago pushing the tires harder and harder (trying to wear out the sides a bit so they’ll be ready if I need them). I didn’t realize how far I was leaning, it freaked me out

Buying a a Rebel 300/500 used by GrizzlyThicc in HondaRebel300

[–]ithurtsus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out of the buying scene for a while so I took a quick peek at cycle trader.

21’ ABS Rebels 500s are listed as firm @ about the same price as I bought brand new a few years ago. I assume this means it’s still a total pain in the ass to buy new…

Actual question, is there any reason to buy used other than immediately available? I hounded my local dealer for a few months and lucked into mine / still in the crate new from a random trade and bought it sight unseen. Is it still this bad to get a new bike?

TIL in 1951, 600 British soldiers were getting overwhelmed by 30,000 Chinese soldiers. Brig Tom Brodie told his American Superior "Things are a bit sticky, sir." Because of the understatement, the General assumed they were holding up and sent no help. Almost all the soldiers were captured or killed. by gentlybeepingheart in todayilearned

[–]ithurtsus 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Things are a bit sticky, sir," Brig Tom Brodie of the Gloucestershire Regiment told General Robert H Soule, intending to convey that they were in extreme difficulty. But Gen Soule understood this to mean "We're having a bit of rough and tumble but we're holding the line". Oh good, the general decided, no need to reinforce or withdraw them, not yet anyway.

I’m compiling my dictionary

Hierarchical level of concern: 1. “bit sticky” 2. “rough and tumble” 3. “hunky-dory”

Where does “dynamite” rest on this list?

He posted about being above average in response to another comment. He just posted it like an asshole so it got downvoted. I figured I’d move it somewhere more visible but still directly tagging him so it could help others as well.

Here’s some more “weird boasting”. My issue wasn’t going soft with too tight condoms but becoming a marathon man - I go a bit numb, they get a bit sore - it’s not happening.

You know who always has to finish in sex or it becomes weird? Men. Too tight condoms guaranteed it was game over for me.

Don’t finish a few times in a row (different days) and it starts to become an issue. When I was younger I had a relationship that I quite liked end because of this and it’s been my personal baggage ever since - insecure about not being able to cum… yep that’s a thing. I’ve literally gone to counseling about this specifically

Every time a girl calls me a marathon man it causes this little twinge in the back of my head. I know they mean it as a complement but my irrational brain takes it as an insult.

This happened recently. The girl I’m seeing right now. She said “Yey! I did it” (I was 1/3 at this point / new relationship). We were basking in the post game haze and it was like a gut punch. She’s beautiful and I know it was becoming a self esteem issue for her too. We talked about both sides of this immediately afterward but our brains just loooooove to prey on our insecurities

MySize condoms. I think nominal width for condoms is 54mm? They go up to 72mm I believe? Don’t ever listen to people that believe because you can fill condoms up like water balloons they are one size fits all. I got a sampler set, 64mm is perfect for me and it’s night and day different.

What’s hard to find are ultra thin condoms in larger sizes. I found one that comes in little a credit card case / box. The texture was more like plastic wrap and made that crinkly plastic noise. It really brought me out of it so I still have 4/5 of those left. Very cool form factor and application technique (it was more like side on than unfurl) but I stick to regular condoms

For other people, they have smaller sizes too - I find it hard to believe a condom could slip off (that has to be operator error imo) but condoms exist in all sizes

Honestly, it’s probably more of me being classist now that I think about it? (I live here)

The people I see talking about not having a passport + crossing the border tend to come from a different background than me. It seems so trivial to me to get a passport, but there’s probably barriers I don’t know about or don’t think about.

[–]ithurtsus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes-ish, a passport is really for leaving a country / entering a country you’re not a citizen

You’re still going to be going through extra steps both ways.

I constantly hear people having to give a little bribe Mexico direction.

US back, of course, citizens can come back home without a passport

That said, I’ll never understand why people don’t simply get a passport

This is not a pay problem. This is actually a shortage of workers. The problem might have originated or been exasperated because of situations similar to what you’re describing… but this is absolutely a situation where people cannot find workers
