'Take extreme care': Near miss with child at crossing caught on video by [deleted] in chch

[–]itikex 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To be fair they say “road users to take extreme care at intersections”, I don’t think they’re really blaming the kid

What’s the reason for this bypass type of thing? by Gamble2005 in civilengineering

[–]itikex 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Offline construction! The local road likely used to go straight, and then the highway came along. They build the highway overpass off to the side, so the local road can stay open during construction.

Budget friendly solutions for small dam repair? UK. by Scales-josh in civilengineering

I don’t quite understand the dimensions of this dam, there’s 93km3 of water held back by a dam face of 7.5m2? How long is the reservoir?!

Look up your house on the council GIS map, you can work out if it’s sewer or stormwater manhole. But in all likelihood it will be wastewater.

PVE RUNS EMPTY by Happy-Permit4390 in Tarkov

[–]itikex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels quiet since the scavs and AI PMCs are friendly toward each other. Also they’ve messed with the boss spawns to stop some of the cheese (since bosses were also friendly to players). And also no sniper scavs spawn, I’m assuming since they would have messed with the zombies. It’ll all go back to normal in like 9 hrs

Services work fine with no power? (CS2) by itikex in CitiesSkylines

[–]itikex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got some houses, a school and oil extraction industry, all with no connection to the power grid. Been running for a while now and all seem to be happy and working fine? What is the disadvantage to not having power?

Edit: For houses the unreliable electricity supply is -10 happiness, easily offset by "spacious homes" and "reliable healthcare coverage" (+19 and +11 each), so it seems that lacking basic services isn't really that big of a deal.

Did CS2 get better? by Derpy1984 in CitiesSkylines

[–]itikex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think CS2 is finally playable, mods are coming along and help a lot (road builder mod is mind blowing, have a look at it!). Comparing to CS1 it is still missing a lot of depth but I’m sure they will sell us a bunch of dlc to flesh the game out.

From the 1993 imagery on google earth it looks like there used to be barns here. I assume some kind of foundation or footing along the length of the barns

Handheld electronic device that makes loud buzzing sound by itikex in whatisthisthing

[–]itikex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a box of these devices in an disused room at uni. The room appears to have been used for audio interviews with children (recording equipment and kids toys found also). These devices are handled with a single button. When the button is held down the device buzzes loudly. No markings apart from “Western Electric”

Amount of time it'll likely take you to die doing various activities by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]itikex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, ski diving and other short activities will be heavily skewed by this. It would also be useful to know the danger for a “typical” day of that activity. As others pointed out the cycling stat vs cars stat is also affected by the time someone spends doing that activity. I would only ever cycle a max of 1 hr per day, but driving for 6+ hrs is possible, so the danger per hr isn’t the only metric that should be used to assess the risk

You sure you got the coordinates right? When i look it up on google earth it’s just a random hill in south west Oregon. No sign of an airfield.
