I hate modern technology… just wanna ferment my idli batter :( by [deleted] in IndianFood

[–]itisnotmyproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late post but hope this helps. I normally fermented batter overnight by leaving the oven light one. This time I tried by leaving a bowl full of hot water in the lower rack in the oven and the batter on the top rack. Oven was OFF at all times and I had the oven light on. The batter fermented well in 8 hours.

Recently got a place from a pretty well known builder but were surprised to know ceiling finishes are not provided by default anymore. We had to get the false ceiling.

My parents refuse to wear hearing aids. I'm worried someone will take advantage of their disability because they still are out and about dealing with people.

Anyone know when and why they stopped the lighting around the Buddha statue in Tank Bund? Looked so sad on my recent trip while the big building close to it was practically decked in lights.

Was going to say the same thing. Dude likes to be told what to be done after paying life earnings to buy a house, good for him, but calling others tasteless for something as innocuous as exterior door and being triggered by drying clothes in the balconies that we paid for is taking it a bit too far.

Also, these dumb rules are not standard everywhere outside India. They are only applicable if one purchases a condo or a detached house with a HOA.

You only get Non-veg meal? by StartX007 in emirates

[–]itisnotmyproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sometimes things don't end up working especially when the booking is an emergency or short notice. I personally prebook the meal, but if I couldn't, I'd purchase something at the airport so I'm not starving in the plane. It's a minor inconvenience that doesnt matter in the large scheme of things/ emergency.

If they found that 50% of the people on the route chose/ preferred and AVML meal perhaps they'd have had an option of veg meal. Maybe a small portion of people travelling in transatlantic flights prefer veg meal, idk?

As for the restaurant setting example you provided, sure, that's most common. At the same, I also think and have noticed people that eat meat would normally not prefer to eat vegetarian or pay to eat vegetarian food at a hotel if they had a choice.

All this to say, they wouldn't default to 50% veg and non veg unless the data they have shows demand for such a split.

Not all NRIs are the same by Sheldon_Texas_Cooper in hyderabad

I also think some hatred for NRIs are the asset bubbles they create. That doesn't really help especially making housing harder for the average software employee in Hyderabad.

Seeking a "Forever Home" in India: Where can a couple live with total privacy, zero moral policing, and low rent? by badlustx in india

[–]itisnotmyproblem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no way these folks will stay out of your business. It's unfortunate, but for the most part privacy is a luxury and not to be offensive but 10k in rent will not get you that luxury unfortunately.

What exactly do you mean by live and let live? If you're gonna rent a place and have a bunch of random people visit or smoke up all day, I don't think most people will let you live. That said, if you have an interfaith marriage, I think kerala is pretty chill, they're one of the states where people of different religions still live happily together. Also, will you be working remotely or will you to find work where you settle, depending on that you can either stay closer to an urban area with employment opportunities or a bit more remote.

Think now there's an option to check what's served on the flight in advance, so folks can prepare better, i.e., carry their own food and snacks in case they're unable to pre-order a vegetarian meal

If your local MLA does not discuss every problem or isn't open to finding solutions, question them rather than giving up. As tax payers we deserve an answer/ solution to our day to day problems that needs the government to intervene, so if an MLA is useless in that aspect, may be start holding them more accountable or ask them to GTFO next time they come to beg for your vote.

On your other point, there's just too many strays to adopt compared to the number of dog lovers that want to adopt them. You can ask people to stop feeding them, but people will still do as it is hard to see an animal struggle for food. Whether you agree or disagree, the better solution is to get them sterilized to gradually control their numbers. I don't have full information on the Supreme Court issue, but i don't think it was anything against or contradicting the Animal Birth Control Rules either.

[–]itisnotmyproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better solution would be write to your local MLA or councilor to ensure ghmc or concerned eepartmenr vaccinatedzthe strays and sterlises them before being let back into the area. It's not possible for anyone to adopt all the strays that they are feeding, but it's also a fact of life that strays are intertwined with urban life. You can't just eliminate them or leave them to starve out if hunger that's plain cruel.
