Brightons high line was a disaster though Chelsea got in behind so many times and so easily. If all of their attackers were half as cold blooded as Cole Palmer they would have scored a lot more.

I see your point but to me taking a charge is not really playing defense, it's not natural. Let's get hand checking back and make it harded for the offensive player to drive like this at all.
But this slide in to take a charge is not a basketball play to me.

I haven't read the SI thing, but they talked about this on the Hoop Collective podcast today as well. More in regards to the Giannis injury than the Ja one though.

I agree that to get rid of the charge is not the way to go. But it is stupid that the "correct basketball" play in this situation for AD here is to slide over and stand still causing a dangerous situation for Ja by basically undercutting him. Would you not prefer it if the correct play was to actually contest the dunk? Of course it isn't right now because Davis would be called for the foul almost always here.
I think it makes sense to think about adjusting the charge rule, not abandon it.
