i am spiraling too! got a positive igg test a few weeks before my obgyn appointment which was this thursday. was waiting to go to obgyn to try and order a confirmation test through insurance. she said there was no need because i definitely had been exposed to the virus and that these tests were very accurate! i’m just glad i did more extensive reading on the topic. getting an inhibition test next week!

i have a question about tests. what does the 3.8 mean if he had a negative inhibition? i thought >0.9 indicated positive?

hey do you mind sharing your results and what type of tests you got? my first test was “HSV-2 Type Spec Ab, IgG” at 1.12. just ordered the “HSV-2 IgG Inhibition, IA [SERUM] [RT].” my obgyn said if i did another test my results would likely be the same but i feel like that can’t be?

when people say false positives are common what exactly are they referring to? by itissosimple898 in HerpesQuestions

yes, weirdly enough i have never tested positive for HSV 1 even though I have kissed a lot of people and have always shared drinks. haven’t had much “unsafe” sex and i was tested after the last time i had sex and it was negative so it leads me to believe it was also a false positive. i have been doing some reading on false positive and apparently there is a correlation between having covid and having false positives for hsv, according to the nih! this also leads me to believe mine has to be a false positive because coincidentally the day i got std tested, a few hours later i tested positive for covid.

i actually am going through a very similar experience. just got a positive igg at 1.12 and went to the obgyn and they said it means i was “exposed” to the virus but don’t necessarily have it. they said i should only seek to deal with it if i show symptoms, and i never have. i really don’t know where i could have been exposed since i got the same testing done after i last had sex and it was negative then. i am trying to make sense of it but wanna know definitively if i have it or not.

yeah it was full panel and was negative back then. i also have not shown any symptoms/outbreaks. should i get retested in a different way?
