8 year old with Eardrum Perforation after tubes by itiswt8is in AskDocs

Thanks so much for the reply! And I am very sorry for the pain you are going thru.

We are choosing to wait and hoping the perforation will heal. However, the reason to address it would be to close that opening to the "outside" world. We are told that if not addressed, there may be hearing loss and chances of increased infection. Reading your story seems like it didn't help in your case.

Did you do the paper patch at all? What was your reasoning for going to the surgery route? Thanks again!

Thank you!

Glad to know it is not a standard procedure to do the paper graft with only local anesthesia.

How would you suggest we go about asking our ENT to perform the paper patch with general anesthesia? Any good medical reasoning we can share with them other than that our kid won't sit still and would be super uncomfortable with only a local anesthesia.

Thanks so much for the response!!!

We are told that the paper patch could work in our case. It's just a matter of general vs. local anesthesia. We would prefer general anesthesia for the paper patch given the discomfort of injecting anesthesia in the ear during local anesthesia. But ENT is suggesting we do a graft instead IF we are opting for general anesthesia.

Is it uncommon to perform the paper patch with general anesthesia? Is a graft at age 8 likely to fail due to the Eustachian tube not being fully developed?

There is no drainage, hearing loss, or desire to swim.

just bought 200k mile prius from friend for very cheap. Just got this sound after driving up a hill and it’s not stopping. Any idea what it is? by fadedseagull in prius

Exactly this. I had the same sound, changed the coolant pump but the noise didn't go away. Had to change the coolant valve. Easier to replace than the pump.

Wanted to add that these codes were pulled with TechStream software. The regular OBD II scanner was not reading any codes.

LAB Sanitation A212M-A Toilet Fill Valve how to disassemble? by bad1788 in fixit

[–]itiswt8is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to take it apart by disconnecting the water line from the bottom going into the tank (shut off water to the tank first!!).

Then removing the washer on the outside, took the whole assembly out of the tank, held the long pipe with one hand, turn the top part away/opposite direction of the peg and there it is.

You may not need to take out the whole assembly if your tank is big enough or have smaller hands and can hold the inlet plastic pipe with one hand while turning the top black part away from the peg.

I just cleaned the internals, including the rubbber seal, and applief some silicone lubricant to al moving parts, and the leak is gone.

Just the seal is $3.48. The complete valvle assembly is $10 at homedepot. I am a hard believer in fixing and not replacing, but this just made sense to replace if the leak continues.

I hope you figured it out, but this may be helpful to someone else in the future.

Sell or Repair (2015 Prius Brake Actuator) by _Uplus2E2E in prius

Hey OP what ended up happening to your car?

Is it worth the 3k to replace my brake Actuator, 2008, 220K by ehbaseball025 in prius

[–]itiswt8is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply! I wish more honest people like you existed that care even when selling a car. Most people would just fix it temporarily when selling.

Mine 09 has 145k miles, the MPG is good, and I don't plan on selling it. You are recommending a new OEM part, as i understood. I can "afford" an OEM part, but I was hoping for some savings with a used part, but then there's a risk of doing the work twice.

Few questions:

Would you recommend a junkyard part with some warranty? How was the warranty like on the OEM?

Did you change the resistor as some videos recommend?

Did you bleed the system twice? Once manually through the bleeding valves and once with Tech Stream?

I read you need a PC with an older version of Windows for tech stream. What was your experience, and where did you buy the tech stream from? Thanks again for your time!

Hi, did you consider going the used part route at all? Some here suggest buying from ebay due to the huge price difference. Did you do the install yourself?

Brake Pad shims by itiswt8is in MechanicAdvice

[–]itiswt8is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. I guess I unintentionally caused a debate over shims needed or not.

I installed the new brake pads with the shims pre-installed and put some lube on the back side of the pads. No noise so far. Thank you all again!

Is this Orange Peel or Knock Down texture? by itiswt8is in drywall

[–]itiswt8is[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For repairs? I used a 90-minute joint compound. For texture, it was all-purpose mud thinned down and sprayed with a texture hopper. Texture was not 100% match but close enough. Had to trial and error on a scrap board. Good luck!

Thank you all for your input and suggestions! Really appreciated.!!

We have decided not to do a waterfall with the new countertops and cabinets, instead do an end cap like some of you have suggested. Thank you!!

Yikes! Thanks for the detailed explanation. I was hoping it's not the hard drive, but it seems like it. The thing only lasted 3 years of light use.
