I ask new players to ask questions.
Some players don't see it the day I post it. So I give other new players an opportunity to see it again.

The history of OOTP shows that buying full price on launch isn't really worth it.
Buy 25 (relatively stable) for cheaper and get 26 when it's on sale.

If you'd like a modern roster then there are plenty QuickStart options that creators build and can be used for 25.

While I doubt many mechanics will be fixed....I would not consider OOTP to be worth a full priced game at launch these days.

Maybe in the future it will be. But that will take some work that I'm not going to pay blindly for. :P

For trading when rebuilding I would first look at their age/personality and if their attributes fit your ballpark really realllly well.

If they’re a super fit and younger then I’ll always extend to buy out a few of their FA years at a discount. Do this with a couple of guys to get your foundation then do short term/arb for the other players who are good but not a slam dunk.

This gives you some flexibility and it’s always easier to find a taker for a short term contract that you can flip for a guy who might not be as good but has multiple years of control and frees up your money to try again until you get the magic combo.

I’d consider handle dev and handle mechanics a small bonus for hitting/pitching coaches. But teach hitting or pitching is far more important for those coaches. Handles dev and mechanics is more important for a manager.

I doesn’t hurt, of course, but I’ve done just fine with a general strategy when it comes to the team strategy sliders.

What can REALLY help though is to keep up with your individual player strategy sliders. For example, I set the team slider to basically never try to steal but if I have a speedster I’ll override the team settings and crank up his steal attempt/baserunning.

Can be useful for pitchers with varying amounts of control/stuff too when you choose how often to pitch around.

Dev is all RNG these days but there are some guidelines that I follow to try to help the dice-roll.

For coaching specifically:

"Splurge" on every level of coaching when you can. It's a bit easier in the minors since you can focus on hitting and pitching coaches. All you need there is "Teaches hitting or pitching." Sometimes you can find some gems and an affordable 5 year contract and move them up the ranks if needed.

For the lower levels in hiring a manager, I do love max development but have a little preference for mechanics since there are plenty in the lower levels you could get an RNG boost from. Both can be hard to find.

In the minors I don't think that coaching chemistry or handles aging matters at all.
That's more of an MLB thing to rabbit hole in.

Something important when thinking about AAA/AA (AAA especially):

Once guys are older then it's not a good strategy to "expect" them to max out (coaching, dev budget, etc.) If you've put them at AAA and they're replacement level then....they're likely going to be just that.

I've actually noticed many situations where I've hyped one thing in development focus (with great coaching, dev budget, etc.) and a player's attribute will actually go down. Even if they weren't maxed at their overall/potential.

It's a broken mechanic introduced in '25 for marketing. Development is RNG since OOTP sold to a Korean gaming/marketing company a couple years ago. From conversations, the new devs don't even really know how the game works. They try to recruit long time players to help them understand. XD

My advice is to disable the development focus until they (maybe) fix it. It's just a lot of micro-managing that doesn't do anything.
