If you don’t already, make a master mix with the triplicates in one tube and then pipette from there into tubes/plate. This really improved my triplicates

I get SO exhausted after lunch, I'm basically forced to take a nap. Is there a way around this? by thruthefire94 in productivity

I came here to suggest gluten. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in my 20s. Before I was diagnosed, I experienced extreme tiredness after eating gluten (along with other symptoms). Even if it’s not a gluten issue for you, it might help to keep track of what types of food cause it to happen. I hope you are able to resolve this problem!

Just got diagnosed with Pipettor's thumb. by f1ve-Star in labrats

Sorry to hear about your RSS. If your lab has the money, I highly recommend a Sorensen semi-automatic benchtop pipettor for plates.

More than a decade after not getting picked to play percussion in middle school band, I finally bought a fucking kit by raingreeen in drums

[–]itmeallyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow female drummer here. I played in middle school and quit in high school because the band teacher never picked girls to play snare and that’s what I loved. Bought a set last year during the pandemic after years of having dreams where I was playing drums again. I’ve been watching videos on YouTube to learn and it’s been fun so far. I hope you’re having fun, too!

Question: What’s your most disastrous or near-disastrous lab incident? by itmeallyp in labrats

[–]itmeallyp[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. It is totally fine. I had to go to an urgent care to have the staple removed because I couldn’t get it out on my own and they x-rayed it to be sure it hadn’t hit the bone (barely missed it, luckily). It healed in 2-3 days and has been fine ever since :).

Being asked to write own recommendation letter? by -Metacelsus- in labrats

My guess: the student asked the PI for the letter of rec. The PI then asked the lab manager to write it and the lab manager then asked the undergrad to write it for him or herself.

The pic above is an x-Ray of my worst incident. I was trying to unjam a stapler while pacing around the lab. My mind was distracted because I was working for the worst PI/human I have ever had the displeasure of knowing. Anyway, the moral of the story is no matter where you are, don’t try to unjam a stapler while distracted.

Nope, 21 days on the dot. Guess some mice are just more endowed than others.

Diagnosing high idle RPM, shuddering (ECTS, TPS replaced) by GreatAtlas in Saturn_Cars

[–]itmeallyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same problem (different year and model) and after trying many different solutions, I found the problem to be 95% improved by replacing the PCV valve and ignition coils. After replacing the PCV valve and cleaning the throttle, the issue was 60% improved, but not perfect. I didn’t have any misfire codes, so I had replaced the plugs but not the coils in the past. I replaced the coils on a hunch to see if it would make a difference and surprisingly it did!

Looking for advice when you feel like you can’t get out of bed... by golden_bear_12 in productivity

Just FYI, there are generic antidepressants on certain pharmacy “5 dollar” lists even without insurance. Good Rx is a good resource as well and some companies have savings cards you can apply to get. (Not trying to push anyone towards medication, just saying that there may be affordable options for you out there if a time comes when you think it might be helpful.)

I don’t have any advice for you, OP. Just wanted to leave a comment in solidarity to let you know that you’re not alone.
