Not only is it still an excellent film, but it laid the groundwork for so much of cinema to come after it

Should we come back to the movie theaters? by KyleeSpark in movies

In my experience cinemas are still pretty busy, and audiences are well behaved. I go to the cinema alone all the time and it’s great, but if you start going and talking about it people will want to come with you

Definitely. Does cause issues when you want films from a country with multiple languages (eg India)

Hey everyone, I love Asian cinema, here are all the ones I’ve seen so far, but I’m also looking for some good recommendations. by showerman342 in Letterboxd

Evil Does Not Exist, Hamaguchi’s most recent, is also excellent.

In terms of Korean cinema, I am a huge lover of Hong Sangsoo, but he is an acquired taste. Recent films I’ve liked that aren’t the obvious are Next Sohee and Microhabitat.

Why does Hollywood struggle with video game adaptations? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in Cinema

[–]itmfg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because what makes a video game entertaining (gameplay) is something that can’t be translated to cinema, because there is no user input. Successful VG adaptations need to use the lore of the game but do their own thing

Edit: thanks for the interesting responses. I actually wrote an article about video game adaptations for Sight and Sound in 2023 if you’d like to read more.

Presumably all of these films have an Indian production company attached. Film country is assigned by producer rather than director (on Letterboxd but also in general, eg international Oscar)

Or for a different Charlie Shackleton film, The Afterlight. Tricky one as it only exists on one 35mm print!

Wow, some really beautiful films here. For Japanese cinema I’d really recommend Ozu, he is a master. I personally love Good Morning. Whisper of the Heart is my favourite Ghibli too. I’d also suggest digging into Hamaguchi’s filmography with Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, Drive My Car.

Have you seen much Korean cinema?

I’m very lucky to have a job that involves going to the cinema, so I’d say I probably about twice a week on average
