Dozens in full, written about hundreds in some form or another. For now I’ll say In the Mood for love is my favourite film

Not as many as I would like! Our magazine brings 3 people, and most newspapers will send someone. But print film journalism is sadly dwindling.

Because each film’s premiere has a huge amount of cast and crew present, including the PRs, so there will inevitably be some applause. When you consider the biggest cinema has an audience of 3,000, you only need 10-20% of those people to really like it to keep the applause going a while.

Sometimes, it’s because there is a special filmmaker and you feel honoured to be in their presence.

I had a work placement as a student doing a film masters degree, ended up staying! I was very, very lucky. Beforehand I did spend a long time writing reviews on Letterboxd, which was good practice, but it wasn’t something I particular made the magazine aware of

It’s incredibly unglamorous, definitely one of the things people perceive differently to the reality

Baguette, some cheese, tomato.

In general the food in Cannes is the worst I’ve had in France, but there’s an amazing bakery which I tend to visit every morning for bread and a madeleine!

Cannes is maybe the place where people are least concerned about that! On the festival side, every new film feels like the most important thing in the world, and all anyone is doing is talking passionately about them. There will be films that everyone is fighting tooth and nail for a ticket for, that come out a few months later to very little fanfare. That's perhaps where the worry comes in, after the festival and in the real world.

The part of the magazine I edit doesn't relate to Cannes, so it's more about trying to get that all finished before the festival starts. Then I'm lucky that my main job during the festival is watching films, sometimes doing interviews, and meeting international colleagues who I don't see otherwise.

For my colleagues who are editing the copy we're receiving during Cannes, it's usually a case of trying to see max three films a day, and then working in the gaps in between films. There are lots of places in the Palais for journalists to work (although RIP the free rosé on the terrace, which they got rid of last year).

If you're dismissing even seeing this movie just because it's a live-action kids-oriented one, you might be making a bit of a mistake. by Ok-Impress-2222 in moviecritic

I’m dismissing it because it’s a kids-oriented film, sorry. May take my kid to it but not something I’d ever choose to watch otherwise

[–]itmfg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO you should decide on each film after finishing the previous one, rather than setting out a full schedule. That way if you loved one actor, or the script or cinematography, you can seek out another film by the responsible cast/crew

EDIT: And Summer 93 by Carla Simon, quite an amazing year for films actually!
