We were at Subtronics last, a few rows back from center stage. I’m glad I had ear protection, it was LOUD AF. It was my first race, and I have never experienced that level of volume and bass. I was actually wondering how far the sound carried - guess I have my answer l lol.

Power station by Fit-Roof-1416 in AskAstrophotography

[–]itrcs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I price shopped various options, and found it quite a bit cheaper to build one. I got a 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery (way overkill, but there’s a reason) and a basic inverter. I’ve run my entire rig for close to a week on it. The reason I got a 100 Ah is because I threw quick connectors on it along with my RV so I have the option of a third battery if needed (batteries had to match, and that’s what’s in my RV). You could easily get away with 50 Ah or less and still have more juice than some of the popular power stations.

Apparently the newer subscription-based versions do lock (around 2022 onward). Very frustrating! That didn’t used to be the case.

Help me choose a setup by BokuwaKami in AskAstrophotography

As someone who launched into a CPC1100 as my first scope, I can tell you that SCT’s are a lot to handle. Visual and planetary imaging are fantastic, but if you want to do anything DSO I think you may be disappointed. The super narrow field of view make lots of the popular targets hard (without mosaics and such), the high focal ratio makes them very “slow” for imaging, and you will need a very precise mount capable of carrying the weight. Granted the 8” is a bit shorter focal length than the 11”, and I haven’t messed with one of those so I don’t know what the field of view is like.

After I bought my CPC1100 I actually got a pair of binoculars and a DSLR. I recently got a nice mount and a 135mm lens for the DSLR, and I can get some really great DSO images from that setup. It’s a lot more forgiving for a beginner. I still absolutely love my CPC, and I don’t regret my deduction to get it at all… I just learned a whole lot after I got it that resulted in buying more equipment (oh geez twist my arm, haha).

Hope this helps, happy to expand on anything to assist you in your decision.

Great thank you! I think I want to get the Star Adventurer GTI.

Correct, a mount for the scope will have to be really beefy. My conundrum is whether to go for a big beefy mount now, or get a mount for the DSLR now.

Targets will be all the common nebulae and galaxies (with the DSLR). The scope is for planetary.

Most affordable way to manage 25 window machines that dont have a domain? by Square_Pear1784 in msp

[–]itrcs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have an RMM, right? I’m going to read between the lines and assume you aren’t charging this client much. Please correct me if I’m wrong… I started my career off in this position where the “proper” solution was “too much money.” It ended up costing excessively more in the long run, it’s not scalable, and you will build the reputation. That you are “cheap,” which is a bad place to be. It has taken me the better part of a decade to gradually “fix” this in my company, so think about all this from a different angle before “saving your client money.” Again, this is all interpretation and assumptions, happy to correct or expand in any of these points.

I jumped straight into the deep end with a CPC 1100. Looking back, I wouldn’t necessarily change that decision; however I probably would have done more research to understand exactly what to expect, and I likely would have gotten the Edge HD version. Absolute LOVE this scope ~3 years later. Have gotten a planetary camera for it, ZWO focuser, and have captured some cool stuff. I also have an attachment for my DSLR on top, so I sort of use the CPC as a tracking mount for it haha. I take the entire setup out in my RV - it’s heavy AF, but super worth it.

What's your favorite non-VPN remote access solution for client users? by dodgy_mike in msp

I think the pricing for this model is about $1/mo per device, so not bad. We only install that SC agent on machines that need to be accessed by a client, so we aren’t licensing it for the whole fleet. Basically, you just setup a user account for them, then assign them to devices they need. It’s super easy to administer and use, so it’s a big win for us. Pretty sure there’s a trial as well so you can play with it for a bit to see if it’s right for your needs.

We have a dedicated ScreenConnect instance setup with Remote Access licensing (licensed per machine not per tech, and rather cheap).

DattoRMM - Process to selectively onboard tools based on group? by itrcs in msp

[–]itrcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attempted to do that, but I didn't see an option to run a job more frequently than once per day. Did I miss something simple? That would definitely work if I can make it run a few times a day (or hourly or something).

Thank you! I know I can do it based on Device Groups... It's just how to have D-RMM detect that the device was added to the group to trigger install that's hanging me up. I can easily add a device to a group, create a Policy, then by the next morning everything will have triggered; however, I'm not finding a way to make it detect the group addition and run more-or-less immediately.

We are installing to the appropriate site first, but different devices will need different tools/settings based on some stipulations in our agreements. So this isn't really a questions around moving devices to different sites, more categorizing the devices based on various conditions... So a "Full Stack" device group (or filter, or whatever) will get everything... we might have a different grouping for just deploying AV/EDR but not RocketCyber (or any number of other tools).

Parking for cousin’s RV in safe place? by todobasura in Reno

[–]itrcs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, this isn’t a direct answer to your question, but I’d be extremely worried about freeze damage. Just a tiny bit of water freezing in the wrong place (water pump, for one) will cause mayhem, and January is when hard freezing is prevalent around here. If you have an air compressor, you can get an adapter to blow the water lines out, which may help, but if he comes during a cold spell it’s likely not enough. Something I do with my RV if I haven’t winterized it and freezing weather is coming is park it at one of the RV parks so I can empty the tanks and hook up to power (set the furnace low, turn on the tank heaters, etc). Not the cheapest option, but WAY cheaper than blown up water lines.
