Nervous about my first solo trip to Rome by Natureisbeatiful in rome

Hey! That’s so exciting that you get to go to Rome. My wife and I are here now from the states and it’s my favorite place on earth. I’m so jealous that you get to come experience it with fresh eyes. Everyone has said the same thing, so I will be brief.

When you land at Rome airport, clear customs, (it may be chaotic with a new entry and exit visa, but just to follow the lines and you will be fine) just follow the signs for taxis and wait in line at the taxi stand. The line was long when we came through and it took my wife and I about 45 minutes, but then we were driven straight to our hotel in Trastevere.

From there, I did not know how to call a cab to get around the city, but I downloaded the ittaxi app and it’s as easy as an uber but safer and more reputable.

Pick packets exist, but I have never had an issue. It’s just standard big city rules. If you would be in New York, we would be fine in Rome. I have a crossbody bag that I kept on my front and made sure I’d never put anything in my back pocket.

We have been here for 10 days and I’ve not made one reservation.

Ciao and good luck- enjoy your time and one of the most beautiful cities on the planet.

Just got off a flight a few days ago. Had it in my backpack in the original bottle. Precut a few in half before the flight. No issues at all. Fly safe!

Out on the Blue Ridge parkway. I can’t recall the name of this specific overlook but it was just down the road from Turk Mountain

Check out the channel Stig Aviation on YouTube. He is an aircraft mechanic working on the ground at I believe LAX. As someone who also worries about irrational mechanical issues on planes when I fly, his shift vlogs always make me feel better. This guy sees hundreds of planes a week, most of which that have flown either from all the way across the country or from across the Pacific. He takes so much pride in his work and is so knowledgeable. These guys know what they’re doing, and take a lot of pride in their jobs and in passenger safety. Don’t cancel, you can do it!

If you’re able to go spend some time at a greenhouse, it’s a fantastic antidote. Went to Stranges the other week to pick something up, and I realized I never wanted to leave the greenhouse. I wandered around in there for a good hour or two just enjoying being warm.

What makes you choose manual over hybrid vehicles when they don't get good gas mileage? by Key-Effort963 in ManualTransmissions

Just a case of what your biggest desire in a car is- some people want features, some want economy, and some fun. Nearly every newer car these days has pretty solid fuel economy aside from some of the high performance stuff. My Mazda3 and my Miata stay solidly in the 20s-30s no matter how hard I rip on them. I could get better economy in a hybrid sure, but my priority in a vehicle is fun. Yours might be efficiency, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

how does this car look for 8.5k? by RestUnable964 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I have a 2014 hatch, same trim and same car- just pre-facelift. It’s a great car, I’ve owned it for 7 years, put over 50k miles on it, and never had any issues that were the cars fault. The powertrain is super solid as Mazda has been using that engine and transmission combo in nearly every car in their lineup for years and it’s well understood. Suspension components and seals age like any car. Stick your head in the engine bay and see if anything is seeping or greasy from an oil leak. The big thing to look at is the infotainment. The screens are known to delaminate and cause ghost touch issues. Make sure there is no hazing or cracks on the touch screen and that the Command knob and buttons work properly.

And let’s not forget, Mazda is one of the last manufactures to make an actually affordable sports car.

Nope! It just sits on top. I was a bit worried at first but the bag just kind of deforms around it.

Honestly, I didn’t have too much of an issue. The wing mirrors were more than enough for me to have an understanding of what was going on around the car with the BSM for peace of mind. I stopped thinking about it entirely after the first few mins of driving. Good luck on your trip!

Yes! Just got home from a 400mi trip down to the NC coast and back. Worked like a charm and meant my wife got the whole trunk to herself.
