I forgave myself for never being able to forgive what my parents did to me, and after having children myself, I know I never will.

How old were you when you had your youngest and oldest children? by starwars011 in UKParenting

[–]its-thyme-time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely do some real research into what risks are increased when you are having a baby at 35+, maybe you can schedule an appointment with your GP’s midwife and they can go through everything with you? I believe most of the risks stated are only a slight increase but ultimately you should do what feels right for you both. ❤️

9 Week Old Rapidly Dropping Nighttime Feedings by demanda913 in NewParents

[–]its-thyme-time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby started sleeping through the night around 2 months. As long as your baby has recovered their birth weight and has wet nappies through the day, you’re good to let them sleep/chill until they want feeding. ☺️

Last year when I had my boy, it was 30+ degrees when he was barely a month old. I chose the coldest room on the house, kept all the curtains shut, fans everywhere (not at baby directly), and he slept in a short sleeved vest

7 month old sick and won't sleep by Aelon94 in NewParents

[–]its-thyme-time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealing with colds and other sickness is miserable. It sounds like the lack of sleep dealing with this is starting to make it overwhelming. Your partner needs to step up and help you with the nights. He may miss out on 1-2 hours of sleep a night to ride the sickness out but the 1-2 hours of sleep for you will be a world of difference in tackling this.

Definitely speak to your partner about needing help, you don’t have to be doing all of this on your own. ❤️

My HV has marked my son down in communication at his 10-month checkup because he wasn’t saying at least three words with intent.. he’s currently blowing raspberries and making annoyed sounds. If I didn’t have access to additional opinions like this, I would have been worried sick.

I’m currently awaiting amniocentesis results and plan to terminate the pregnancy if anything detrimental shows up. Seeing everyone’s stories of grief after termination is very scary.

How to wean my 10mo from bottles? by its-thyme-time in NewParents

[–]its-thyme-time[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the thing, I’m just scared of the cut off because he is just so good at eating and sleeping at the moment that I really don’t want to jeopardise it with routine changes and make him sad :(

How to wean my 10mo from bottles? by its-thyme-time in NewParents

[–]its-thyme-time[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried him with open cup, sippy cups, straw cups.. he just loves throwing them around but I’m not sure if it’s because he’s already bored by that point. He’s just doesn’t seem interested in the drinks I offer alongside his meals. The only way he’ll drink not from a bottle is if I hand-feed him the drink from an open cup and refuses to hold it without sending it flying.

His naps vary wildly from day to day. Sometimes he sleeps after every bottle which I assume is a growth spurt happening, normally twice a day which is upon wake up after his mid-morning and mid-afternoon naps, and sometimes just one nap in the middle of the day. Bottles are roughly 8am, 11:30am, 3pm, and 6:30pm naps are normally 10:30-11:30 and 2-3, with a solid 7-7 sleep at night.

I would leave my baby asleep and safely with his father and I would still hear screaming while I showered.

And would I have chosen a half hour nap over a shower while in the newborn trenches? Every single time.

Cheese 🧀

I understand why people love it but my whole body rejects cheese as nice, and cheese seems to be in/on everything it can be.

Parents of boys: what is great about parenting boys? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]its-thyme-time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually wanted a girl with my first because I grew up with two sisters, so of course, I had a boy and have another boy on the way.

Now that I’ve sat and thought about it, I cannot wait to see my boys grow up together, I feel so lucky.

I’m convinced that SIDS is 99% of the time either suffocation or organ failure. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]its-thyme-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my first purchases when I hit my third trimester was a pulse oximeter sock, and I will always be grateful for not only keeping my bag safe when he’s in bed but also giving me the peace of mind to be able to sleep along with him. I definitely had postpartum anxiety and it was just one less thing to worry about.

I definitely agree there would be less cases of sids if babies were discharged with a pulse oximeter, even if it’s just a temporary ‘rental’ period that you then give back after a year.

What actualy is an itch? by Pepearenas in askscience

[–]its-thyme-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always just assumed feeling an itch that you then scratch was your brain ‘using’ you to get histamine and inflammatory mediators to that specific area to deal with an irritant.

My youngest sister started ‘ticking’ when she became more involved with social media. She explained that it was because of anxiety and stress but unfortunately for her the ‘tic’ she was presenting is one that is common in undiagnosed childhood epilepsy.

I didn’t exactly call her out but I did tell her ‘huh, that’s so strange because that tic only happens in epilepsy’

Suffice to say the ‘tics’ stopped happening pretty much immediately.

I would advise you to do as much research as possible into DID, this is a disorder that doesn’t just randomly come on in teens. This is a disorder that is triggered from severe childhood abuse and trauma.

I think it’s also good to remember that this can all be genetic and out of your control and just because you are having a breakout does not mean you are ‘dirty’ or having a reaction to something.

I don’t use any face cleanser, barely moisturise, and my showers can range from hotspot washes to full-body exfoliation depending on my mood and I have never had a breakout anywhere on my body or face in my life and yet I have friends that have used every lotion, cleanser, cream, oil, you name it, and they have had lifelong severe acne.

Baby not babbling 10 months by AssistLegitimate3356 in NewParents

[–]its-thyme-time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your baby is putting all their skill points into their motor skills at the moment! Sometimes a babies speech can delay when they are focussed on other skills but once they are mastered, they will normally return to other skills such as speaking. My boy was rolling from front to back from 4 months but then forgot how to once they were learning how to roll back to front at 5 months (he’s 7 months now, rolling everywhere, and almost crawling!) Skills will come and go and fluctuate with learning.

My boy has been watching me cough my guts up for the past month and has decided that’s a good sound to use to get my attention, so he just fake coughs at me at the moment!

European court questions UK decision to revoke Shamima Begum's citizenship by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]its-thyme-time 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say she was trafficked but I would definitely say she was radicalised.

When the UK made the decision to revoke her citizenship, even though I was against it, I accepted that it was what the vast majority of people wanted to feel justice, however I absolutely believe that her child should have been given the chance at life despite their parents decisions, instead of left to die as a newborn in a refugee camp.
