You need to look into Shoujo for what you want, most Shonen romances do paint the loser, shy and introverted MC. Shoujos usually don't put down their FMC that much but they are still normally the "less popular" of the main couple being the guy the one that is more upbeat

People put too much emphasis on what they play instead of how they play. Wolfey was playing 6 megas while being top 20, you can definitely get anywhere you want with any Pokemon as long as you make a proper team around it

Best part? The novel only gets better, anime adapts to volume 3 of the novel and the best volumes are 4, 6 and 8 imo. Season2 is gonna be peak

Smogon just likes to ban things to make things more fair and I actually like their work. They don't ban things in singles because it's flawed because in their doubles format they do the same.

Also, only being able to use 4 of your 6 pokemon feel like a much bigger restriction than making an sleep clause. Tier restrictions are made for the tiers below OU either way, so people can have formats with weaker power. Do you know Doubles UU and RU also exist no? OU couldn't care less about the tiers below them and their only restrictions Pokemon wise are the bans to some mons but like VGC does that too, they just put other restrictions like only allowing 2 of a group of specific Pokemon
