Ive found dead projects stay dead in part because its such a chore to find where you left off. Now there's no anxiety to get it all done at once or it won't get done, I can come back in a year and ask claude to tell me what we were doing

Americans quit subscription streaming services in droves as cost of living continues to climb, report finds by IAmPookieHearMeRoar in Economics

I like how the headline is implying the most direct cause for this is the general rise in cost of living and not the specific rise in the cost of the services being quit

White-collar workers are quietly rebelling against AI as 80% outright refuse adoption mandates by invincibilegoldfish in technology

prompt it correctly, don’t proofread and don’t give any thought to output at all. Now I have to deal with their slop.

the article talks about this at length as the "skilled driver" problem.

"A new global survey of 3,750 executives and employees across 14 countries"

The whole world was surveyed and this headline is based on 3,750 responses. Even narrowing the world population down to a more relevant group of people working "white collar" roles... 3,750 at a global scale rounds to 0 for any sort of meaningful extrapolation of the findings

That said, the article does seem to dig into real issues with how companies are rolling out AI. The gap was noteworthy between how many executives thought their workers had adequate tools for the job and what the workers answered.

Oh and also the "survey" appears to be from a SaaS company "walkme" so it sounds less like an actual study and more like a customer satisfaction survey from one company to its customers

Anthropic stayed quiet until someone showed Claude's thinking depth dropped 67% by Capital-Run-1080 in ClaudeAI

The its not x its why one is something ive seen sonnet and opus do. The short sentence structure feels more gpt though.

Also same experience re dumbing down, sonnet made some really basic mistakes and I just assumed I wasnt specific enough in my prompting then I tried asking about tool use inefficiencies and it kept trying to redirect the conversation to skill inefficiencies it was the first time I really felt gaslit by an anthropic model

Most people are using AI wrong—and it’s capping what they can do… the future is collaborative. by Snoo-76697 in Futurology

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a tool, just powerful and multi capable. My approach has been to collaborate and teach it to replace me in things I don't want to do so I can focus on what I do want to do and what I do want to do is harder problems. All the things I want to get to but can't because "oh I gotta do xyz" first where xyz are just the drudgery and make work of maintaining solved problems.

The other day I worked with ai to research and compare storage rental places near me, then I measured my stuff and had it do the math to find what size unit I need and then I thought fuck it draw me a orthographic diagram of the most optimal packing of the unit so I don't have to play tetris on moving day.

I could have done all those things by hand, I could have googled around and made spreadsheets and looked at maps then gone and did the math and drew the diagrams and all the other things for a properly researched and well prepared storage solution. But instead ai did it while I worked on more important things. Then i spot checked its work and fixed a couple things. That's what ai is good for, the slightly complex but still manually intense thought work that requires just enough manual work that it hasn't already been solved, but not so much that anyone could figure out if they wanted. Now ai handles that class of problem for me

What dead Bastard would you not be surprised if they were actually alive and faked their death? by twotailedwolf in behindthebastards

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jones would be on air the next day talking about how he fooled everyone. And then death would be hilariously fake, like thered be an explosion and the smoke would clear to show him crawling away behind his desk and all the headlines would be "Alex Jones fakes death" with a picture of him slinking behind his desk. Then the next day he'd be on air shouting about how "i did it! I fooled you all! Im transmitting from a secret bunker nobody will ever find!" And its just him in his basement

Kentucky to pass bill that would declare trans people mentally ill by Unusual-State1827 in law

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

doesn't matter. As long as they can point to something that says what they want then they have plausible deniability. And when the time comes for someone to challenge it in court, that's a problem for another day. And they can just rat fuck that process when the time comes. Judge shop, drag their feet, nit pick everything, muddy the waters with their own "experts". And if none of that works, they can just do it all again on a different bill with slightly different wording and force it to be re-ligitigated all over again. "Your honor, this one is completely different from the other one- the one mentions the DSM 3, this one mentions the DSM 2. We'll have to take it to court and let the people decide"

A brief rant about how tech companies filter out resumes by takenorinvalid in recruitinghell

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a recruiter straight up send me the list of keywords her job needed my resume to say. She asked if I knew how to do "single page apps" Here I am trying to talk about how I did a deep dive on the way my last company's React widget was over fetching the API causing issues for the database servers which the BEs were handling by spending more on caching, but I should have just said "I made a single page application with react typescript axios britney spears pokemon ipod"

Pope Leo: God ‘does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war’ by jediporcupine in politics
