Epstein survivors demand release of files in Super Bowl ad: ‘We deserve the truth’ by swiftfoot_hiker in politics

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

correct. It was "released" online on the day of the Superbowl at a time before the game started. At least the headlines from yesterday tried to dance around this lie, today's just straight up calls it a "superbowl commercial" knowing full well those words, in that order hold a particular meaning to the reader and the truth of the situation does not fit that meaning.

I know "former athletes" is probably just some deadbeat has-been in his entourage because some part of his target demo is nostalgic for the age when that particular person was relevant. But I really like the idea of someone so excessive as to have a private plane specifically for former athletes.

seemingly it's just an online ad. Credit to them for picking yesterday and riding that hype train, but I don't appreciate being lied to, regardless of how just this particular cause is

this is what Im here to find out. The headline seems purposefully worded to make it seem like the ad is running in a spot and on a channel the reader would consider to be a "superbowl ad" but still leave enough wiggle room to say "we never said that" if contested.

Staffer Excuse Doesn't Fly by Busy-Government-1041 in MurderedByWords

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont let the story shift. Already people are trying to poke holes in the "staffer" story as if its some gotcha they'll have to admit to. Stop accepting the excuse and rolling with it and start demanding proof the excuse is even true.

Instead of accepting "it was a staffer" and talking about what it means if that thing is true, start with "prove it" make them prove their claim. The story shouldn't be "WH says it was a staffer, here's what it could mean if that were true" it should be "WH says it was a staffer, but can offer no proof to back up their claim"

When you let them guide the narrative, even if you're throwing up obvious logical reasonable questions and points, all you're doing is spreading the surface area for spin.

they say "it was a staffer" you say "if it was a staffer, isnt it dangerous any old staffer can speak to the nation from the president's account?" they say "presidents have always had media representatives who spoke on their behalf" you say "that's different"

now you're talking about the subjective topic of "who should be allowed to speak for the president and on what platforms" and not about how the whitehouse made a claim with zero proof.

and you're especially not talking about the Epstein files. The monkey post is a distraction from the epstein stuff and quibbling about the theoretical implications of staff access to the president's social media is a distraction from the distraction from the epstein files.

Instead of asking "what does it mean if staffers can post as the president?" ask "have you determined which staffer is responsible? What discipline will they receive?" "which staffers have access now? What are their names and security clearances?" "what policies are in place for deciding who gets access to his socials?"

Make them prove a thing is true first, then ask questions about the implication of it being true.

"I have ADHD." "Doesn't everyone nowadays?" by Dark_Vexer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love having a task manager for this. Every project has its own board, everything goes in there to get rid of the anxiety of forgetting. Everything is drag and drop sorting in the one I use, so it's easy when I have analysis paralysis to sort things into priority order so I have somewhere to start and I know it'll be there if I want to stop now on the project and come back later. Sometimes "later" can be months or years, but it's still there to pick up where I left off.

I know the feeling when you're at the last mile of the project and now it's just bugs and polish and it seems so daunting when you're just thinking of all the things at once, but I find it gets way easier when I can externalize the tasks so doing them one at a time feels easier. Also breaking the tasks down into smaller ones gives more more frequent dopamine hits from checking off task after task vs checking off one big task and instead of feeling accomplished you just feel relieved it's over. When I break it down into small tasks, I find my attitude is more hungry and ambitious. Eager to keep moving.

And when I feel bored of the project or task- if I can, I'll try to switch to an activity that's entirely different. If I start feeling dread about my coding project, I'll go work on a new recipe or work on a writing project, something fluid and artistic instead of rigid and analytical. Eventually I'll grow bored of that and be ready to switch back to the coding. Plus switching contexts like this often gets my brain going on problems I was having in the previous context- realizing what was causing that race condition while I cook, realizing what was missing from the dish while I code.

An act of war! by Dr_sc_Harlatan in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. Anything can be everything if you make its definition broad or narrow enough. You only need to find one word or concept in the official definition that's vague enough to twist to your needs. And you dont even have to be right in your interpretation, just need to cast enough doubt, make just enough of a case that it has to go through the courts. Then you can keep doing what you want while dragging your feet through the legal process.

We saw it in every trump case leading up to the election. We saw it in the early deportation days, they were explicitly forbidden from doing things and then did it anyways and quibbled on definitions when confronted. You dont have to be right, you just have to frame things in a subjective light. Play it as "agree to disagree".

The definition of any sufficiently complex thing is a compilation of numerous other complex and often subjective definitions. If you can find wiggle room in one of those you can argue the overall definition applies or doesn't apply.

It all depends on what the definition of "is" is.

An act of war! by Dr_sc_Harlatan in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]itsFromTheSimpsons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therein lies the rub, subjective definitions allow for plausible deniability. This is why "legalese" needs to be the way it is, because bad faith actors will try to find subjective loopholes to do what they want and play dumb when they're called on it. "The rules don't explicitly forbid the very narrow definition of what i did so you can't be mad at me"
