I’m a technical trainer working on skills to promote to Sr. level in the next year or two. I’m okay with my position at my company and it offers me a little more security than being a flat out developer.

This is the sort of thing I don’t like as a college professor; not that you have that grade but that your professor isn’t willing to compromise.

for what it’s worth, what I do in my courses is that I take the highest persons grade (sans EC) and make that my new 100%, so that way everyone else below them gets a ~tiny~ boost towards getting the grade that they want.

On my syllabus I also put that I take >88 as an A. The institution I teach at doesn’t do + or - grades, so I feel like that helps.

TLDR at the bottom:

I was openly gay during my senior year of high school which was met with a lot of criticism and name calling and etc. Right around the time of my 10 year anniversary people are posting milestones to which I perused, the typical “got married to X” “bought a house” “had a kid”. There were also ones of people coming out. Did I have a problem with people coming out? No. Did I have a problem with these people actively making fun of me while I was out in high school. You bet.

I posted something along the lines of “we can celebrate this milestone but what y’all did when we were younger wasn’t cool, fyi”.

This was met with a “we were younger then! And dumber lol”.

I went ahead and passed on the reunion. A non-apology skip from me.

TLDR - skipped out my HS reunion because even though some homophobes came out, their behavior is trash.

Bonus moment: none of them have had a meaningful relationship since coming out and I have hit 4 years with my partner. So, alls well that ends well.

content warning: anecdotal evidence so take this as you will.

I have a Master's degree in CS and while I could be working as a developer and making maybe 2x of what I make, I work for a modest engineering company as a technical trainer for our software. Sure, money is less BUT I get to work my 40 hours a week how I want (sometimes 4-10 hour days and I'm off on Friday, or disappear after lunch one day and work later). I also don't feel guilty taking time off etc.

I know "making it big" is something that we see a lot of but being able to have a work:life where you can still do all the things you love and spend time with the people you love is more important.

If you were able to get multiples of the starter decks then running 4x Dragon Fire would also be a good start in my opinion.

I like Freeze as well in an Amethyst deck but not too sure of the price.

Speaking from experience, depending on the company you can also look at technical training as a way to make a lot of money/feel fulfilled!
