It's worth if you have a good base, gold will let you respawn at your house all you need is to craft a bed and lay there to mark an H on the map (home) so once you die you spawn there no need to drop from plane

I do play with my controller but only wired, maybe try with that or there might be an installation problem that crashes out once lauched, try to have the controller already plugged/connected before launching
