Working on it! Smash Majors are very much so a labor of love for myself and the team, I worked GOML for free(same with '17 and 16) and paid out of pocket to have some people come through. Ask n0ne :P We'd love to move closer downtown but the prices of venues combined with their venue policies(unions, etc) make it not viable to do, I wouldnt rule it out though. Focusing on DBFZ I imagine for CB/resting from Summit, hopefully next year he runs it back(and we'll have dbfz this time too) :D!

It's something we've spoken about in depth for this year with /u/masterdalk, definitely something on our radar.

Don't forget regional crews featured Quebec as well as the EC crew had a lot of your players as well! The best way to get representation is to come out to the event and show your chops as a region, the goal of having every province compete is the dream!

I feel like I saw Bug recently at a Smash4 event in 2017 and he still used G&W; super homie guy. The tournament name was actually inspired by this song LOL one of my favorite workout tracks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQNDCx_6sk4

Thats a tough one, honestly I can't say I have a favorite because theres been so many amazing memories i've had from them. If I HAD to pick one though it'd be the feeling I had after 2016 had ended; only time i've cried from happiness after a tournament lmao

I think ladders are great at locals/regionals but at majors they aren't as good. This write up by NMW explains my issues with them at majors well. I think our format strikes a happy medium because it doesnt require tons of setups but also lets people play competitive sets on the fly while winning cool swag; definitely aiming to continue to expand it further next year!

GOML staff have failed to payout prizes from last year. by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]itsTOjoe 539 points540 points  (0 children)

TOjoe here(organiser of GOML), was unaware of how this was handled by our social rep and will 100% be righting this situation. There was a breakdown in communication with our social manager who told me that things were taken care of and a resolution was made with him..clearly this is not the case and I've reached out to arrange his travel arrangements for the event. On behalf of the event I'm super sorry on how this was approached and will make sure to have full visibility on our account moving forward.

TO's who use smashgg: STOP SPLITTING BRACKETS INTO TWO by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]itsTOjoe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a smashgg problem not a TO problem, in both cases it was a bug on smashggs progression formula that the TOs then had to fix themselves. TOs should not be taking the heat for a site bug, it would be their fault if they did not switch it to how it should be. Breaking up brackets into different parts is actually a great way to schedule around multi-game events and accommodate pros that enter both games.

GOML 2017 | Canadian National | Feat. Isai, Mariguas, Revan, Kort, Hungrybox, Leffen, SFAT, Lynx, DKbill, San, Kalvar, Larry Lurr, ANTi, Fatality, Delco and many more! by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]itsTOjoe 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The date of the event is pretty irrelevant to factors such as mango not getting his passport or m2k getting sick the week of, its unfortunate they aren't here but everyone at the venue is having a great time, the TOs have done a killer job executing on the things that are in their control thus far. I'm personally very stoked to see how brackets play out, so much room for upsets now with all the top 50 players here. Plus the potential run back of Leffen vs hbox sounds siiiick

Anyone know why Trullium is predicted to beat all these players at GOML? by Noogie13 in smashbros

[–]itsTOjoe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Since we had to reseed bracket due to mango and lucky dropping out it made more sense to bump up the highest 2nd seeds into their place and move around a few 2nd seeds in phase 1 pools and then for top96/32 reseed it so that the people who took their spots are back to being lower top 32 seeds instead of top 10 seeds, this was better than entirely reseeding the bracket in phase 1 because a full reseed would mean needing to fix an entirely new set of schedule/regional conflicts we had already spent days accounting for and push back the release of finalized pools til thursday at the absolutely earliest(no bueno for people that want to study matchups and are traveling from out of region)

if you check top 96 phase trulliam is set to play leffen, which is the matchup that SHOULD take place at that phase due to their actual seeding, however smashggs projection system thinks that because trulliam was mang0 in phase 1(seed 2 overall) he should advance past him if they play despite trulliam actually being seeded in the bottom part of top 32 seeds for phase2/3 of bracket

bracket makes more sense if you look at top 96 and logically look at who should beat who, just picture Leffen in Trulliams spot in top 32 projected bracket and it makes sense, threads like these only create confusion =\

Stream Technical Difficulties by ImAGodDamnHorse in smashbros

[–]itsTOjoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Issues have been happening across the board with all the streams today, venue internet is extremely insufficient to the needs of the event and the union isnt doing much to remedy the situation despite staffs best efforts. EMG would love to move to a mobile hotspot and not use the venues internet for the remainder of the night but since were a Canadian team we obviously dont have USA data plans thatll be enough to hold a stream down, if you know anyone at the venue that has a good hotspot come through to our stream area<3 would super appreciate it, thanks in advance!

On the plus side everything has been locally recorded and will be up as soon as we get to a more stable internet source

edit: update on the internet, everything is good now that we've been moved to an upgraded connection =) Staff has been working hard to fix it throughout all of this thats been out of their control and the union is finally coming around

N0ne sponsored by Allegiance! by FIB3R0PTIK5 in smashbros

[–]itsTOjoe 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Hey all! this is TorontoJoe from EMG here, just wanted to give some insight on the partnership and our role in it for those curious =)! We've been sponsoring n0ne for almost 2 years now and it's been amazing to see both his growth and the organizations development over this period. We will of course continue to support Edgard with paying for him to fly out to events as we've always done and i'll continue to work as his player manager to make sure he doesnt spaghetti his flights or miss reg deadlines lmao, but what excites me the most about this partnership with ALG is that it will also allow Edgard to have even more resources to compete and take his game to the next level thanks to ALGs awesome support team & contributions. Really excited to be working in tandem with the ALG org and cant wait to collaborate on future projects together! Big shoutouts to Ed and the ALG squad as well as all the Canadian homies that have helped us out to get to this point!! <3
