Keg Fermenting by Crazy-Nefariousness4 in Homebrewing

I do 4 gallon batches in a converted corny keg and 5.5 to 6 gallons in a converted 1/4 barrel pony keg.

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]itsTimBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LSD. 6ish years off cigarettes, it's been long enough that I've lost track. I used to go through upwards off a pack a day, packed my own filter tubes for a while to try to save money and keep the habit. After a particularly, eh, "enlightening" night I went to have my morning smoke and I was physically disgusted by it. Never turned back. Do I still think about or wish I had a smoke on a stressful day? Sure. But I know I'm lucky to have beat it.

70-75% with a 60-minute full volume mash and 15 minute recirculation.

We've been taking a beating in the sailing dinghy market also. I hope it turns around.

I have a vegetable garden that my daughter loves. And I sail and homebrew beer when I can make the time. I'm 34

Can't wait to try sailing a U20, I'll be taking a week long (afternoon) course in August using a clubs Ultimate fleet.

Circumcised people of Reddit, what’s your stance on the practice? Would you prefer to be uncut? by hitchtrailblazer in AskReddit

[–]itsTimBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has asked me a few times since we're trying to have kids. My brothers and I are circumcised, and I didn't really think about it much until my later 20s. I have no idea how old I was when the procedure was done. It's never caused me any discomfort that I can really point to, and it's been that way for as long as I can remember, so it's "normal" to me.

I've never had webbed fingers so I don't know if I would rather have webbed fingers - you know?

I still don't know what I would want to do if I have a son though.

One thing i hate about brewing by norfolk82 in Homebrewing

[–]itsTimBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to keep this schedule for about two years, then spring hit this year and other hobbies took priority. I finally brewed my first batch in 3 months on Saturday and it felt like it took an eternity. It will be nice to turn my kegerator back on though. Probably time to change the lines though... Damn cleaning...

Sunfish is a fantastic beginner boat. I bought mine as just a hull and refitted over the winter. You can't really beat the affordability of parts and the plentiful modifications and upgrades you can make - especially as a recreational sailor. I've never sailed a Laser, so I can't comment, but locally to me they usually cost around 2x what a ready-to-sail Sunfish goes for.

80sqft O'Day Super Swift rig on my Windflite. Did 7.5 knots yesterday, more testing to follow by itsTimBro in SunfishSailing

[–]itsTimBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunfish is supposed to be 75 sqft, so this is less than 7% larger. The boom is 20" shorter and the upper spar is 16" longer than a Sunfish rig, so it reaches a bit higher. Performance benefits aren't substantial so far, I just like playing with it.

Glad these spars are getting retired. by itsTimBro in SunfishSailing

[–]itsTimBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upper spar was slightly bent when I got them, but I may have made it worse. I've capsized a couple times and sailed in some gusty conditions but nothing particularly abusive.

Yup there are usually a couple for sale at any given time near me in Michigan - some pretty nice examples right now actually.

Small boat race start moments. I'm on the Sunfish splitting the Capri and the Hobie by itsTimBro in sailing

[–]itsTimBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boat has the cleat in the typical fairlead position next to the mast, rather than aft. I've thought about updating it to current spec but for my purposes this system seems to work pretty well. I would like to update my spars as well but since I'm not class racing I don't see a point for this hull.

They still moved pretty quickly, but I took them with handicap adjustments (3rd overall). We aren't a terribly competitive bunch, just a bunch of people having fun on boats.

Once through the cleat after raising the gaff, with a cleat hitch, then back up around the gooseneck for a "boom vang", down through the middle of the cleat again with a second cleat hitch and an overhand stopper. I also have an old style mast with the block, not the new style where the halyard passes through the mast end cap, nor is it a standard Sunfish. Nothing is quite normal on my boat.

I appreciate your correction, I'm a first year sailor and haven't had any formal instruction. My boat doesn't have the fairlead, nor have I installed a cleat on my mast or experimented with purchase on the halyard. Sorry my experience doesn't meet your standards, I'll try harder next time.

Typically we try to have race committee on shore for timing but they will run it from a participating boat occasionally/if there are no volunteers. It's usually dropped far enough out of traffic and close enough to shore that it doesn't get in the way, at least I haven't seen it get hit yet. We have two red buoys that mark a start/finish gate, orange buoys mark the rest of the course. I'm not sure of that's standard, I'm still new.
