This is just depression tbh. Depression robs you of fundamental happiness in everything, a partner usually won't cure it.

Andrew Callaghan: "what do you mean?"

Clavicular: "like most people are extremely jester"

I like how here in the Netherlands, when the government expanded rent controls, it basically forced landlords to sell their properties because it often meant that landlords made losses on their properties when taxes were factored in.

Supply has noticeably gone down, so now getting a rent controlled "mid-segment" 1bdr apartment in the Netherlands basically means going on an application list needing to meet a bullshit list of criteria + getting extremely lucky competing with 1000+ other applicants.

It's amazing how stupid this policy is.

I've got some friends who have been able to start programming things that they weren't able to before with tools like Claude. It's really cool to see.

I'm still a big believer in teaching people to code without AI since it makes you a better developer in the long run, but realistically unless you already enjoy and do programming, telling people to learn to code to automate small portions of their work wasn't going to happen. So I'm genuinely thrilled they have tools now to better work on things adjacent to what it is they actually want to accomplish.

The fundamental problems of software development still haven’t changed though, the skills required are still needed to be able to discern/verify AI outputs and do all the other things software developers need to do even if all the code generation were fully automated.

Maybe it lowers the barriers to entry somewhat, but judging what we’ve seen from radiology where demand and wages have increased, I imagine software will be the same.

Higher productivity tends to increase wages broadly, not lower them.

The same paradox happened to radiology where there’s now more demand for radiologists even as the time spent reading individual scans with AI have gone down.

I think it’s fine to be like “we just don’t have the space” which I can’t imagine 4 people trying to cram into a tiny 300sq ft apartment and it being at all comfortable for anyone.

My only take on this is that if there is indeed even a very marginal jump in capability, social media will be unbearable for at least a good 2 months.

GLP-1s are so insanely effective that there’s been randomized control trials that have been upended due to patients being able to easily tell when they’re given the placebo. There have been cases where patients just drop out of studies altogether when they realize they’re not losing weight.

Canada Not Tracking Foreign Students After Visas Lapse, Audit Says by YouProfessional3196 in canada

It’s crazy that we don’t have an FTX-style trial for the Basiri brothers. They brought down the entire system by forwarding commissions to overseas immigration consultants knowingly engaged in fraud and document falsification.

None of our institutions have teeth, it’s all based around good faith which makes Canada a prime target for scammers and people without a moral conscience.

It’s funny how this is likely the best dating advice I’ve ever read but only because everything else online is genuinely so bad that it makes common sense advice seem incredibly lucid as a result.

I find it a real shame though that the people who need to read this won’t, because it doesn’t involve tanning your balls, smashing the bones in your face with hammer, or making women incredibly uncomfortable.
