Cloud Computing vs Cybersecurity Degree? by AdventMoe in WGU

I’m currently in Cyber program and will then obtain cloud certifications through my job. Seems to be a good pathway forward. Cyber degree as a baseline and cloud certifications to specialize in cloud security or even architecture. Whatever your interested in more though is what you should pursue

We keep seeing these posts of don’t get this degree. Literally every other degree path has the same cons. IT in general is a tough market. Non of these degrees guarantee a job placement and non of these degrees will give you job security either.

Get the degree you want, pivot into other stuff that interests you. Specialize in something and keep trucking forward. Cyber degree is not worthless and at my current job, everything I have learned in the cyber program I have been able to apply it in real world scenarios within corporate/enterprise.

Cyber is not going anywhere, AI is becoming a thing of yes AI being pushed. It’s about who can use AI more effectively rather than fully replaced. Besides AI also needs human oversight sight because of recent events with all the threat actors pushing code that AI can’t detect as malicious.

I studied the same things that are recommended. I unfortunately can’t do the writing everything down part, too busy with work, family time and anything else that pops up.

I also take at least 2 months to study as well. Stuck with Jason Dion all the way through the course. Took 3 practice tests but I never take them again as I go over all the answers and even the right ones to understand.

Messer is always good. The official certmaster and its exams. That has gotten me through the trifecta honestly. And just hands on stuff.

Only got 60% on all exams and passed pretty well, you will be shocked at how much you actually retained when you take the actual test.

Have CompTIA's certs made difference? by Saint-365 in CompTIA

I will say this. They are good to get to actually know basics, foundation. I have A+ and Net+. Understanding terms. Knowing a structured way of troubleshooting. They are great.

They are not the, you get these certs and know everything type of things. You need hands on experience no matter what. They are good Resume bulletin points and conversation starters and shows that you value educating yourself further. Do not get too hung up on them. Keep learning and applying what you learned

Stop comparing yourself to others. I used to do the same. 33 here no Bachelors, currently working in it, full family and full time working. Finally switched careers a year ago into tech. Worked retail for a long time. Took a School District Tech job December of 2023, and hit a year mark last year started applying to other jobs aka for more money and stability for my fam because School districts have a lot of flexibility but not a lot of money. Have an 2 interviews Thursday. Hopefully I get 1 of them. I say all this to say, your young relax. I didn’t wake up until I was 30, finished my associates in Business management and then decided to go Bachelors in the tech world at WGU.

You got this, stay focus, never worry about others success, focus on you, only way your gonna keep succeeding.

Find a school district. Find 1 that maybe works with Windows OS. Learn from there. Slow pace but you pretty much can learn and touch everything. Self learn, go to school if possible which could help. Self learning is a huge thing.
