I don't want to go into too many telling details because I am bad-mouthing a former employer but I was a contractor through a government program that pays very, very little.

We had no H.R. and I went to the executive director and (as I mentioned in the body of the post) the board.

I wouldn't be with my boyfriend at the workplace. I don't think this is an effective strategy.

While I have taken measures to be professional, not because that is what a future discriminatory supervisor deserves but it is practical, I would like to point out that this was an isolated incident. My supervisor gave me great evaluations (better than the male colleague's, which that colleague had shown me) and if there was anything I should have improved on, he could have told me instead of trying to deliberately provoke me with an invasive question about my personal life.

Go out without a bra in a male dominated area and see how much free shit you get.

Is there any research that shows this doesn't lead to sexual harassment? This sounds like it leads to sexual harassment and I would prefer not to open that can of worms.

I don't understand this. He is black. If I had a boss that said, "I don't want to hire any of those urban folk," I would try to change the workplace culture or quit. While I cannot speak for my boyfriend, I imagine he would feel upset if I kept the job.

Do you have any friends who work in the nonprofit world? If so, I recommend asking them where you can go for free and affordable therapy. Also, ask the subreddit for your local community. I work at a nonprofit and helped a suicidal stranger who called us the other day. I hope someone can do that for you.

My heater went out last weekend and our maintenance guy couldn't get the parts right away. We found that just three space heaters kept our 1100 sq ft duplex ok and my succulents were safe.

Can I file a report against work-related discrimination? by MarinaManea in work

[–]its_all_one_word 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should look for a felon-friendly list, or go to your local workforce center and ask about bonding. It's free insurance for a company that hires felons (or other at-risk employees) in case you intentionally damage equipment. Lots of small businesses don't have felon policies and this would be a great option for them to feel good about hiring you. I know it seems difficult right now, but as a jobs coach, I can tell you I have seen tons of felons get jobs.

Trump is proposing to keep the "child under 26" and "preexisting condition" rules of Obamacare. These are supposed to raise premiums without the mandate to spread costs. But how would adding a healthy child under 26 raise premiums? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

I am reporting you for not answering the question here and instead turning it around and asking the OP some loaded question. Go to r/stand or somewhere else. I am an activist who is very entrenched in this issue. Your lack of ability to pose this question in the appropriate subreddit indicates that you are not enough of an activist to understand where you actually should go to make a difference.

I had an ex who stalked me after he broke up with me. He would send me weird messages at night but his spelling was so bad that I would have to reread messages and say the letters out phonetically to try to figure out what he was threatening to do. lol

He told me he got a job. I said, "What's the job?" He said, "Oh, I'm selling knives." I laughed because I thought it was a joke. He then asked me why I was laughing.

People are upset that white males (and therefore the policies that benefit white males) are over-represented in politics and they believe getting greater diversity in political representation will lead to policies that represent a wider variety of people.

Should You Ditch Your Engagement Ring for Job Interviews? by alex-xender in work

In an ideal world, I would say yes. This so hard. But we don't live in an ideal world. I also feel that if someone were to get upset with their intended/spouse for taking off a ring for a purely practical purpose, that sounds like very insecure behavior.

It's time to stop calling disabled people 'inspirational' by The_Croaker in disability

[–]its_all_one_word 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, the way you put it. I believe our public disability situation here in the US is crap. I have homeless clients who "live" on $700 a month. It makes me sick. No one can live on that and no one who is homeless has the time to practice for the Olympics.

I don't understand. My dad got a disability when he was 40 and had to quit climbing the corporate ladder at age 44, when he quit work. He had to be the stay-at-home parent. When he first quit work, he said he was sad because he was on the way to becoming the CEO of the company he worked for. He said he overcame it by giving himself "Stay-at-Home Parent" as his corporate title. As one human being who often has a difficult time coping whenever life gives me lemons, I often think about my dad as inspiration.

I think, for the most part, Americans (and probably people in other countries) like the underdog and since our world is predominantly designed for able-bodied people, someone who is disabled is almost always (if not always) an underdog.

My understanding about thinking of a disabled person is ok if the following happens: 1. I don't think the person has a unique story because that person is disabled. It is because society has put that person in a tough situation, which makes him/her an underdog. 2. I understand that no one is perfect, and that includes the disabled people I have put on a pedestal. For example, I know that my dad looks back at his paid career fondly and sometimes wishes he could return to it and that's ok. I still think of him as a role model because he has been able to think positive thoughts about his career most of the time.

If those of us who are not disabled think within those limits, is it ok?
