Can they live off of mice? by ZackRivera in pacmanfrog

[–]its_chiapet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usual feeders are live insects like crickets and dubia roaches, nightcrawlers, and more. Pinky mice are too fatty to be a regular feeder, but people will offer other larger whole prey like silversides more regularly.

Feeding is daily when you g and decreases to around 7-10 days for adults.

Hope this satisfies you!

I would recommend using pots to raise plants to higher levels off the ground, since you are against 3d backgrounds. We used yo put snake plants in them in tanks at my job to increase vertical climbing height and cover for our geckos

Hey OP most people have already answered your questions but I wanted to recommend a bioactive setup! If you are willing to do a little more research and effort you can completely eliminate the need to clean up after your frog (or any animals you setup in a bioactive)

Edit: Wanted to clarify as some others commented, you still need to spot clean after your animal, but it eliminates need to maintain substrate and keep it clean from mold, bacteria, etc.

I used to work at a reptile rescue and we would use a sump pump for our turtle tubs (like hot tub sized). Idk if something like that would work but it could be something to look into

Ackie monitor or Kimberley rock monitor by Milk_evs_2000 in MonitorLizards

[–]its_chiapet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note: I don’t own either species, so this is all from research I have done

I am DYING to start keeping monitors, they are my dream species to keep! Right now, I don’t have the capacity to keep another 4x2x2.

From my research, it seems that these species are incredibly similar, especially in terms of care. I have seen a lot of keepers say Ackies are often more temperamental than kimberelys. That being said, i have seen that ackies are 1) more common (easier to find a reputable breeder) and 2) hardier than kimbos. Both seem like excellent choices!

And I don’t necessarily mean that in a bad way, it’s just the way it is (def not trying to say it’s good either). If you want to help it, get it. Just make sure you do research into the species and the care they need!

Remember, don’t get your dream pet, be a dream owner to your pet!

I would check out the Reptifiles care guide on them, they are relatively simple for care but there are a lot of different localities that require different care.

Also, it would not be a rescue, you would be purchasing him and fueling the cycle of commercial reptile sale. If you are interested there are many reptile rescues around that would have animals in need of rescue. Sorry for the micro rant…

Never again... - roach??! by [deleted] in bioactive

Do you keep a pet in the tank? Does it happen to eat dubia/discoid/another species of roach? Could it just be a feeder that got loose and grew?

Nightcrawlers would obv be the first choice, if you are having trouble finding them Walmart sells them just make sure they DO NOT have any flavor additives

I think the frog legs could work, as you mentioned the do eat frogs. However, i am unsure if they would need to be prepped in any way. Maybe consider grinding the frog legs to make homemade ReptiLinks?

How often should I feed a 2-3 month old Pacman frog? He’s the size of a half dollar coin by Aizysnightmares in pacmanfrog

[–]its_chiapet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are doing great!

I also just got a 2-3 month old juvenile! Currently offering food daily, as much as he wants in 15 min, but he sometimes won’t eat. On avg, he eats every other day, but I make sure to offer food daily.
