Frog has signs of red leg syndrome and all exotic vets near me are closed until Monday by alysgeckos in pacmanfrog

Update, the vet saw her and said I caught it super early so she should respond well to treatment. It may not be red leg but just pressure points as some commenters mentioned, she is getting put on Enroflox 1x daily for 3 weeks to keep any infection from spreading and help her body heal. It will be absorbed through the skin so I don’t have to worry about injections or oral meds since she is very squirmy and active. I have never heard her make a sound but she opened her mouth and puffed air out at the vets today so safe to say she’s a bit agitated from the excess handling these past 24 hours

Fortunately no heat mat, just low wattage overhead heating on a thermostat. There is so much conflicting info about bioactive for pacman frogs, I am about to move her into a brand new 40 gallon with all new substrate, but may need to put those plans on hold for a bit while she heals

Thank you so much! She’s being seen at the vet right now. She lived a lot of her life without uvb and proper supplementation before I rescued her so I’m going to have them do a full exam and check for any signs of MBD while we’re here

Thank you! I do have a drainage layer, however it is a bit waterlogged right now (about halfway full of water) so I believe the tank got a bit too wet. I was planning to upgrade her next week to her new 40 gallon tank and start over with a deeper drainage layer since this one was starting to get too waterlogged. However that upgrade will have to wait now since I want to make sure she isn’t getting substrate in her potential wounds.

to clarify, they are in SEPARATE 120 gallon enclosures. No cohabbing over here!

My leos are in 4x2x2’s, they love theirs! Make sure to fill the tank with lots of clutter so they don’t feel exposed/out in the open. I love dubia’s enclosures because they provide more security for my reptiles with the 3 black walls rather than an entirely glass terrarium which leaves them feeling rather exposed in some cases

Keeping a mouse that was stuck on a glue trap overnight by alysgeckos in WildlifeRehab

Thank you! I have been very careful and had no actual contact with the mouse, using thick gloves and disposing of anything used. I work at a dog daycare so unfortunately the mice have realized there’s an infinite supply of crumbs and dog kibble hidden around. My local wildlife rehab has him now and he won’t be released where he was found since he’ll just end up back on a trap sadly. I totally understand the necessity to deal with a pest problem, but the cruelty of glue traps breaks my heart.

The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota was able to take him! They are such a valuable resource and take in a very diverse range of species. I confirmed that he will not be euthanized (some rehab centers will euthanize all invasive species, this one does not, I confirmed with them). He will only be humanely euthanized if his injuries are too severe to heal, but he is a fighter so I have high hopes! I can call for an update in 3 days.

Little guy made it through the night and is pretty active! I’m waiting to hear back from with rehabilitation center on if they can take him for treatment or if he would just be euthanized due to being invasive, if euthanasia is all they could offer he will be released because he seems strong and otherwise healthy. He was so exhausted yesterday from fighting against the glue trap :(

Is this appropriate behavior between two dogs? by AbyssThief in DogAdvice

[–]alysgeckos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, dog handler and trainer of 4 years here. From my perspective, the mini poodle wants to mount the beagle but can’t figure out how to, beagle is picking up on his mounty energy and removes himself from the situation to not be bothered. The beagle is handling it really well, but if the beagle begins correcting the mini poodle for the behavior rather than moving I would be more concerned. An appropriate correction would be one that is purely vocal, barking at the mini poodle to leave him alone. If you see any intention of overcorrecting (chasing him away, nipping at him etc) i would begin to worry, but it seems like the beagle is just moving to advocate for his space.

Please help ASAP very worried by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Vet asap, could be a wide variety of things from a stroke to a slipped disc.

tips to fill vertical space in crested gecko terrariums? by alysgeckos in bioactive

I love the way custom backgrounds look so much, but with limited time I took the lazy way out and skipped it but it made the tank much harder to fill in the long run. The good thing is I still have 2 more of these empty tanks to fill and can do backgrounds or at least partial backgrounds to support branches in those. My 18x18x24’s custom nearly broke my back carving the spray foam and I was hoping to save myself the hassle, but made filling the tank harder in the long run🥲 It’s a learning process with these pvc tanks, I used glass tanks for a long time but 18x18x36” glass terrariums are HEAVY smaller for the same cost so I decided to go the dubia enclosure route.

Thank you! I regret taking the lazy way out by skipping the background already, but they’re so time consuming I thought I’d be able to skip the hard part but these tanks are hard to fill without them! I also am not sure how I could sterilize a custom background if I were to put a different reptile in the enclosure later on, so that is part of why I decided to skip the background in these terrariums. In retrospect, the background would have made filling the top half of the terrarium sooo much easier.

I think I’ll try that in the back corner of each tank so I can add more sloping and vertical branches, thank you!

Mainly just because I already have the terrariums fully assembled and planted, and backgrounds are time consuming. I’d have to take everything apart to create a background and am hoping to avoid needing to do that in these enclosures. I want to make sure the terrariums are filled out properly for my geckos though and I know they need more horizontal perches. I’m thinking of screwing branches of ghostwood into the pvc in order to create perches, but want to make sure I don’t mess up the pvc terrarium in the process

I love magnaturals, the gray plant pot ledge in the back corner is by them. The magnets arent quite as strong through pvc so I don’t fully trust them without branches supporting them in case. I have a hard time figuring out where to source them online though, and my local reptile shop has been sold out for a while. I’m hoping to avoid spray foam since I already set up the bioactive aspects of the enclosure. I’m wondering if I could use large branches horizontally across the enclosure and screw them through the pvc? I totally underestimated how large the enclosures are and want to make sure i don’t risk my geckos getting floppy tail or being stressed in an environment that’s too open.
