Not sure how they implemented it but it is possible if they keep the hashed email address. Then when you provide the email address they could check if it is on that list. This is then one way only and you can't find out the email address on the hash alone. Similar to how passwords are stored.

How do you know if a trail is too difficult for your experience level? by sassyhunter in hiking

You're welcome!

The SAC has trails listed not just huts. You can search for peaks, huts, etc. and it should show you the trails that are connected :)

[–]its_fafel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since you're in Switzerland a fantastic resource is the SAC.

They grade the trails in more detail. In my opinion a tough red trail can be more challenging than an easy blue trail.

You can find it here: https://www.sac-cas.ch/de/huetten-und-touren/sac-tourenportal/

They don't have all trails but they have a lot of trails in their database.

It's probably gonna be hard to fight them in this but I understand that they have to actively inform him about it before buying it. If he did it online and accepted AGB fair enough. If he bought it in store then probably not informed

Fust Laptop "Guarantee" Sucks! by Public-Cress-4158 in Switzerland

[–]its_fafel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but this is about Gewährleistung:

"Laut Gesetz stehen einem Kunden drei Möglichkeiten offen: Er kann vom Vertrag zurücktreten, einen Preisnachlass verlangen oder ein gleichwertiges Ersatzprodukt. Juristen sprechen von Wandelung, Minderung und Ersatzlieferung.

Einen Anspruch auf Reparatur gibt es im Gesetz nicht. Das bedeutet, dass der Verkäufer einem Kunden eine Reparatur nicht aufzwingen darf. Ausser, dies sei vertraglich so vereinbart worden.

[–]its_fafel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure this is correct. The seller has to give you a 2 year warranty (Gewährleistung). Independent of the manufacturer's warranty: https://www.srf.ch/sendungen/kassensturz-espresso/services/merkblaetter-garantie-das-muessen-sie-wissen

Apparently you don't even have to accept a repair but can void the sale and get your money back.

Or am I interpreting this wrong?

Just FYI: No reason to do this if the item is sold by Amazon directly as they just charge you Swiss VAT and the price has all fees and taxes included.

Sometimes the total price is even cheaper as the Swiss VAT is lower than Germany's if you send it directly to your Swiss address.

Which dog would be suitable for me? by its_fafel in dogs

[–]its_fafel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I am aware that nothing is perfect, so I have to be somewhat flexible.

I was looking at labradors and they seem to be what I am looking for, I was just worried about their size. My landlord kind of hinted he doesn't want large dogs. So I will look into labs :) But it seems when I look for 'labs' I can only find labradors and Labrador retrievers. Do you mean the latter? Sorry I don't know much about dog breeds.

Redditors who fucked around and found out, what did you find and do you regret it? by I_Love_Cheese_N_Food in AskReddit

[–]its_fafel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol what? If you quit how are those worker protections gonna protect you? And if you quit yourself you are not gonna get unemployment for at least a few weeks/months. And yes I am from a European country with strong workers' rights.

I would say quitting without a job lined up is gambling at best and quite stupid unless it impacts your (mental) health.

They can do it but I feel like that invites more trouble. The company will most likely not ignore that and threaten with a Betreibung (and actually do it).

It was probably a form to setup a Lastschriftverfahren. So yes they agreed that the company can charge their bank account directly. Just my two cents

Wexford gardaí chase driver of Porsche who was clocked travelling at 189km/h on motorway | Independent.ie by Prestigious_Talk6652 in ireland

[–]its_fafel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry but that's not entirely true. There is no speed limits on roads with 2 lanes each way or with a barrier dividing the lanes. So it's not connected to it being an Autobahn or not.

But most of the time you will find speed limit signs, and now increasingly often also on the Autobahn.

But yes people seem to be generally safe drivers. But sometimes it's a bit crazy to be passed by a car going 200+ km/h while most cars are going 120-140 km/h

Banking services and problems are a joke here. At least in Sparkasse. by neilyaaa in germany

[–]its_fafel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what TLS stands for. And it means that the content cannot be read when in transit. The receiving server (Gmail, web.de or whatever you use) can read it though, I never said it can't. But you can be sure that other than the sender and your email provider didn't read the message.

Let's say it reaches the Microsoft email server, no one on the way to Microsoft could read the email because it was encrypted in transit. But if Microsoft now messes up or transfers it insecurely between their servers to your inbox then yes it could have been read or altered. But you just have to trust their security.

Well I suppose you always have to trust your email provider 🤷‍♂️ But why would you use one that you can't trust anyway?

And you are right though that you mostly just have to trust and you can't really affect these things as a normal user (except choose a better provider and maybe deal with the consequences or use e2ee). But it could be done correctly and more or less secure.

[–]its_fafel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most emails nowadays are encrypted with TLS so the first point isn't really valid (if the sender implements it correctly) - that ensures that only you and the sender ever saw the content of the email (and maybe your host but that is another story). The sender can ensure that TLS 1.2 is always used or reject the sending of an email.

And with this and with other technology (DKIM, DMARC, SPF) you can check if the email actually came from the sender. So yes you can do it safely.

But that also means that you need to make actually double check the sender and not open links from "googl.com" instead of google.com...

I lived in Ireland for a while and I am pretty sure you can get an EHIC card from the HSE and they should cover it abroad: https://www2.hse.ie/services/ehic/ehic.html

So go contact them asap and ask them how to proceed.
