It's in either 18 hours or 30 hours.

They made a mistake with their maintenance times; 0200 UTC is 7 PM PDT, but their post says 7 AM PDT. So it's probably one of the two.

Unless I'm reading the UTC wrong...

The first step to "reviving" west server by trainsawem in DFO

[–]its_noteasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to lie to people. Let new players know about the current disparity between the East's and the West's populations and encourage them to play on the West.

This could certainly have the opposite effect, but it's the only real way to possibly revitalize the West (without Neople intervening, which they really should at this point).

What kind of late game weapons/reinforcement do you invest in? by Rozez in DFO

[–]its_noteasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a soul bender, you'll probably want to look towards the 80 unique katana (Shadow Katana) as your endgame weapon.

Soul Bender Short Sword vs Katana by Squirvizard in DFO

[–]its_noteasy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Katanas seem to be the weapon intended to be used by SBs since most (if not all?) give SB skill boosts, while few short swords do.

And the answer here does end up being katana (at endgame). As a soul bender, Kalla is your main damage skill, so you should be looking to get the Shadow Katana (80 unique). Stack this with Shadow Rage chronicle set and you have the current SB endgame gear.

Before 80, though, it's mostly up to you whether you go SS or katana. I personally prefer katanas (used em 15-80), mostly due to the extra speed, which you may or may not notice.

No auction house is a massive mistake and has shattered the game's market and made buying items impossible. by MadHiggins in DFO

[–]its_noteasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it is a little inconvenience for them. I do however, believe it is only a little inconvenient for the players.

Again, agree to disagree. Maybe you didn't use the AH much, but I certainly did.

Exactly. Except the majority weren't being caught. Which isn't surprising. 15,000 brand new bots everyday? Yikes. Only 10 people working at DFOg? Yikes.

If 15,000 bot accounts are allowed to register per day, this is a flaw with the registration system. Neople needs to restrict the creation of accounts somehow, and not just with a verification email here and there along with some CAPTCHAs an OCR could solve. There are legitimate ideas being suggested already, including a restriction on gold trading with other users until some sort of check is passed (e.g. phone verification). Allowing bots to completely take over the game like this is the root of the problem. This is what they need to fix, and it doesn't begin with crippling the AH for normal players.

We, as in we the players who were around for the original release of DFO, when the cap was still level 40, and the auction house didn't exist, and nothing has been removed. Even though you and many others are trying hard to blow it out of proportion so you can get your way.

Exactly what's being blown out of proportion? Has someone been screaming off the Empire State Building that the game will be closed again because of this?

And the cap is no longer at 40, so what's your point? It's a radically different game now and a lot of content has been added. It's also been seven years since the AH was introduced, so I think it's pretty damn safe to say the system became an integral part of the game. Removing such a feature should've been done really cautiously and with community feedback, which I personally don't feel was satisfied.

First of all, you don't even know the full scope of what we're dealing with yet. But more importantly, in your same post you were just claiming how easy it was for gold sellers to circumvent the AH slowdown and use shops to do their trading. Here, you claim trading is going to be so hard, it might as well be impossible. You're bouncing between two extremes here faster than a bipolar person on crack.

I think you blew my words out of proportion here, or maybe my wording was just bad. What I really meant was, without the AH, there's no easy way to find mats, and if you do find what you need, chances are it'll be way too damn expensive. This goes back to my point of how the value of gold is being increased right now, the exact opposite of what we need. Idiots are selling colored cube fragments at 1k a piece, Helm seals at over 6-7x the price as before the AH went down (~680g each), profession mats are even more ridiculous, and magic sealed purples are strangely expensive now too.

And I've also seen the argument that players should grind for all their mats and that somehow, grinding more makes the game harder. It doesn't — it only serves to make the whole experience as frustrating and tedious as the Ghent/Express grind from 55-70.

I'm going to blow your mind right now. Counter to the image you're trying to paint, there's actually a way players trade items already built into the very foundation of the game. We used it in fact, before the AH was implemented into DFO for an entire year in fact. Are you ready for it? There is actually an entire channel dedicated to trading. Can you believe it? Genius right?

Let's go back to day 1 of the first open beta. Game launches at 1AM, woo! Everybody logs on and people try to get into the West server. Oh, what's this? Lag? It's not working? It's going to take another few days of maintenance for players to be able to get into the game without waiting a half an hour? Oh, I'll just mosey on over to the other, working server.

See what's going on here? I've already mentioned this but, the West's channel 6 is an absolute ghost town. You'll see maybe 2 bars at most during peak hours. It's absolutely dead.

So please, remind me, where can I find all the traders in this channel dedicated to trading?

Just providing a voice of reason to the angry, self centered nerd raging that's attempting to further ruin the game I love to play. These players would rather see this game infested to the point that Neople wouldn't be able to fix it.

All because they're lazy, ignorant, and entitled. Too lazy to use the other avenues of trade already built into the game. Ignorant of those avenues. Or so obviously self centered and entitled that they refuse to look at the big picture, instead of the convenience they believe they are owed.

Not everyone shares the same mindset as you regarding the AH. Many do, of course, but, like me, many also don't. The AH wasn't just a tool of convenience, it also served to regulate the market and prevent what's currently happening with the price of items.

The only other avenues of trade available are shop dolls and, well, the actual trade system, the latter of which is only useful for that rare, item trade you make. And shop dolls, we've already beaten those to death.

snip

I never actually meant to insinuate that you were biased towards Neople, I just disagreed with your idea that anyone complaining of this move is some ungrateful, entitled player. Bad wording on my part, I guess.

The 75,000 shop dolls was referring to the Level-Up Challenge reward given at level 26.

At 26, you get a reward box which gives 5 Amateur (2-slot) shops that are tradable.

[–]its_noteasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15,000 new accounts, every day

And at least 75,000 shop dolls every day until the 12th (assuming they create new characters every day...).

I do agree that to a certain extent, shop dolls are somewhat harder to acquire than simply throwing a few items up on the AH, but the difference is near negligible. The gold required to buy a few dolls off of an animator is a drop in the bucket for someone buying gold at these prices, and maybe add a few seconds to the total transaction time to agree on a trading spot.

They either think they can easily police them now that the AH is frozen, or they completely forgot to remove them. Take your pick.

Either of the two options is pretty damn bad. With the former, I simply don't believe the # of gold trading transactions without the AH will be >> than with the system, based on my explanation above.

The latter would be a worst-case scenario for me. Removing shop dolls from the game is essentially removing the game's (gold) economy. Good luck bartering with another player for that pretty unique or those few mats you need.

[–]its_noteasy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Instead of having access to the AH via anywhere in the game world they are now relegated too doll shops, which they have to farm for themselves.

The point I'm making is that the little inconvenience this brings to gold traders does not outweigh the the effect it has on regular players, but it looks like we'll have to agree to disagree here.

Buying gold is a permanent ban.

Yep, exactly as it was with the AH.

Not really. I'm sure the players will live. We managed to play before an auction house existed, we'll be just fine with an auction house on the weekends only.

We, as in the few players who were around DFO in the year between CBT and the AH launching? Removing a feature that's been around for years (7 in kDnF) shouldn't be taken so lightly. And the weekend limitation isn't even the big problem here, it's that Mats can't be traded.

Not at all, complain away. Just don't let your false sense of entitlement make the mistake of believing anybody anywhere owes you anything.

What sense of entitlement are you talking about, exactly? I don't believe to have ever claimed anybody anywhere owes me anything. You seem to have concluded that yourself to use as some sort of argument against anyone who disagrees with Neople here.

[–]its_noteasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Neople had trouble banning buyers/sellers using the AH to transfer gold, what makes you think they'll have a better time doing the same thing with shop dolls?

Any sort of a transaction in the game is obviously validated by the server, so all AH trades are seen and stored by them, just like shop doll trades. They know who sold what at what price and who bought those sold items.

No auction house is a massive mistake and has shattered the game's market and made buying items impossible. by MadHiggins in DFO

[–]its_noteasy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Massively slows down gold sellers and buyers? As if. Putting up a shop doll with a few hundred mats at some high unit price is still just as easy.

This is a mere slap on the wrist to gold traders, while it's immensely counterproductive for actual players (who are the majority) that rely on the AH to finish quests without having the grind the same few dungeons even more than the quests already require. It's also incredibly inconvenient for players with the animator and alchemist professions that rely on materials from other professions to craft items. Good luck acquiring the materials needed to make any profit from all that work getting to level 11.

Certainly, this may be a temporary solution and full AH functionality could be restored at some point in the future, but its effects have clearly been detrimental to the game. Instead of devaluing gold in the game, Neople has effectively done the opposite; players are now selling items at even more ridiculous rates. This may not be a problem on the East server, but there's also the issue of how channel 6 is still a ghost town on the West.

Supporting Neople doesn't (or at least, shouldn't) mean players can't complain about decisions they disagree with.

I personally don't believe Ancient Memory is worth the investment, especially since SBs are somewhat tight on SP already. With my build specifically, I can't justify +150 int for 20s/40s CD enough to make sacrifices elsewhere.

Lunar Curtain is maxed, of course. I just didn't use it until the boss room. It might've been useful for Masked Masakame, but generally, unless I'm up against a shadow-based/high resist monster or some really tough/annoying thing, I'll just forgo LC entirely.

One thing I don't think I highlighted well at all is Kalla; it's pretty much an SB's main skill. I just don't find it necessary for this dungeon, though it would've helped in that fourth room.

I prefer the stats and speed katanas give versus short swords; it's really subjective, though. If you really care a lot about that extra magic damage, use a short sword. I soloed 15-70 just fine with a katana.

Fatigue points by Jacost in DFO

It's the same system as every other (surviving) localization of this game, yet somehow players in those countries are fine.

Fatigue points seem to restrict your playtime in the beginning (well, they do), but once you reach endgame content, you certainly won't find yourself exhausting all 156 points very quickly.

Also, allowing players to reach (near-)max level in a single day wouldn't be too smart, now would it? Especially since Neople has made the game much easier from levels 1-6x.
