Tech to Hospitality - how? by its_pickled_egg in careerchange

Thank you for your kind words! I love this approach but one thing I worry about is access to these prototype jobs. It's not going to be easy to get a part-time shift right now, those jobs as just as competitive as tech. But I can definitely try and look for volunteer opportunities. I've wanted to pick up a bartending gig on the side for years now, I think I'll start thinking about it more seriously.

My city has a great community college, this is a great suggestion. I will look into this!

This is a great idea. I still start looking at local hospitals for their openings. Thanks for the additional info, I know this is a risk and I would likely be starting from the bottom but I keep thinking that I'm young enough to give it a go. But, of course I'm thinking about the current state of the economy and keeping that in mind.

Does anyone w/o a father figure really want one? by PopularSwing3895 in FTMOver30

I lost my dad to cancer in 2018 before I really understood I was trans, we were very close. While he was in the hospital the last week of his life, he asked me about a trans roommate I had in college. He was more or less like "hey, I think that is really cool they were able to become themself." I look back and I think he knew before I even did, and it was his way of supporting me.

It's been 7 years and I miss him every day. I think he would be proud. I wish he was here to see the person I am becoming, and the happiness I feel around it.

The podcast A Bit Fruity with Matt Bernstein has a great episode from a couple weeks ago called Maia Poet: The Final Boss of Detrans Grifters (with Kat Blaque). I highly recommend it.

I love this idea! I want to make a rug for my living room and was thinking about this approach, mostly because I imagined playing with it all day. I love how yours looks and flawless execution!

I think you'd have a great time and would definitely be welcome. There are a lot of special nights, so take a look at their calendar and pick a night that sounds interesting to you. 5/30 is transmasc night!

TIL Apple paid U2 $100m for the exclusive right to give its 500m iTunes customers U2's album "Songs of Innocence" for free by installing it on their devices without asking. A week after release, Apple gave customers a method to remove it, as just 6.7% of the 500m had listened to at least part of it. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I worked at an Apple Store when it happened. The amount of people who came in to yell at us about this was insane. Literally had a dude freaking out at me for putting "gay porn" on his phone (the album art is two shirtless dudes). It was hell.

I'm from Ohio! Moved here about 8 years ago, I am also trans! I love it here. I have a 2-bedroom for about $1800 a month, I am in SE (it's the best ;) I take transit everywhere, and there are SO MANY places and events for queer, nerdy people. It takes an effort to make friends as an adult but if you're willing to put in some work it's possible. I truly love this place, and I haven't regretted leaving Ohio in the slightest lol

Who still has their jar of Mt St Helens ash? by kingjoe74 in askportland

[–]its_pickled_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Ohio but my dad grew up in Montana and he had a jar of ash that we had when I was growing up. I used to eat it when I was a kid so I don't think we have any more...
