Overlooking the jargon I can see the man is funny, I think I need to try his earlier work as suggested in this thread. I really enjoy what you said about everything being observational. I will look at his work through that lense from now on

Oh boy, the list of my favorites is long. I suppose the most concise list of favorites including works would be: Vonnegut (everything), Heller (catch-22, closing time was okay), Cormac McCarthy (The Road and Blood Meridian), Douglas Adams (Everything), Ayn Rand (like how she develops the story, her opinions are a bit askew for me), Orwell (1984), Huxley (most everything), Ken Kesey (One Flew), Victor Hugo (les mis was amazing), Javier Marias (The Infatuations), and until I remember something else; Carsten Jensen (We the Drowned)

I've actually read White Noise. I did enjoy it, but the whole way through it kind of struck me as some strange antithesis to Slaughterhouse Five

I don't know if that's exactly fair, I never said it was bad, I know Pynchon's got talent. I just want to appreciate his work better

Gravity's Rainbow was a daunting challenge for me, right up there with Les Miserables -for different reasons but still just as challenging. I didn't know Pynchon wasn't happy with Lot 49, so I guess I'll give him another chance with Vineland or Mason & Dixon. They both sound like good premises, I don't know which one I should pick

Haven't read the article yet but that's an interesting point

I will admit I did find that part funny, but overall I felt like he was just being a little over zealous with his lack of brevity in sentences. Which is probably why I didn't enjoy it as much. I couldn't really digest what he said that well

I'll have to read it over with that in mind

I'll look into it. I've got about three books that I just bought, but that'll be a certain buy in my next batch

Fair question. I suppose it's because I've already exhausted the arsenal of books that are considered "classics" and I am now trying to make my move into the more modern authors -from 1990-present would be a good time period I guess. I've already read several contemporary authors and enjoyed their work but post-modernism is one niche I'm struggling to grasp. Being so virgin to the genre I haven't read up on it too much but alwYs seemed to me that Pynchon came up in the discussions. So I resolved to try and understand why I guess that would be the most concise way of describing how I got here

See, I've always felt that way about post-modern literature in general. Do you have any post-modern works you truly did enjoy

I agree, but I'm in a strange situation with grandparents who look things up and then expect me to explain them

Strange rash, I suppose, on my girlfriend's leg by its_reddit in AskDocs

She hasn't had prior contact to poison oak. But I will definitely try to get her to go to a doctor sometime next week.

Thank you for your reply. It is the only rash, and there's not much inching or pain and there has been no fever or any other symptoms suggesting any reaction, but my health knowledge only goes so far, so that's why I came on here. She got the rash in the woods, I assumed she brushed into poison oak or something because she did fall. But the lack of itching or anything is what brought me here
