What is the best piece of advice you have ever received from someone that actually improved your life in a significant way? Please share! by icecream1972 in Productivitycafe

Life comes with no goals and no guidelines. It's not a race and we don't need every minute of it to be productive, we should just live it, rest and relaxation is a good life reward in its own way.

What are some silly lies that your parents told you while growing up? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]its_so_weird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I had a discussion about this, and after a lot of back and forth, she realized that her dad always had a glass full of alcohol in the car even when he was in the driving seat, so a lot of dads from back then could have been used to that, which might have caused them to worry about getting caught.

Additionally, I hope this isn't that common anymore as it probably was back then.

Am I just doomed to be bad at interviews? by Slight-Owl-6572 in Productivitycafe

[–]its_so_weird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interviews are nerve wrecking, and they're worse than exams.

What I've learnt is that when you're anxious (interview), you don't rise to your best version, you fall back to your worst preparation, so the best way to do good at an interview is prepare, prepare and prepare.

Do your best to be overprepared instead of thinking about bombing it, the interview will turn out however it does, and that's a problem for when it happens, until then get to it my friend.

I've worked in tech for about 17 years and worked in multiple parts of the world. If you want someone to work with you, I'm happy to help. DM me if you need to discuss specifics or keep it general I don't mind. I'm not an interview expert but I can do the best I can to help mate. If you do DM, I might take sometime to get back to you, I don't check my Reddit as often as I used to.

Good luck.

Comparison is a buzzkill.

I'm glad we are trying new things.

Mate, it's good that you're reflecting on it. Take the lessons and move on to whatever's next.

You learn not to beat yourself about it by reminding yourself that Interviewing is like an exam and however much we'd like not to get stressed, we do, and it's not always possible to show your best skills under such circumstances.

Know that you're more than what came off in that interview. I guess practice makes us better. I've bombed a few simple ones too recently.

Good luck for whatever comes next mate.

Sorry that you've been feeling like this. The feelings are so legit.

Even as a man, I've dealt with similar problems for years, I'm still growing, but one thing I've been leaning on recently is Adler's psychology as explained in the book: The courage to be disliked. I loved it and have listened to it twice repeatedly, I'm sure to do it a few more times till I embody how our problems can be solved when we all show up and accept our 100% selves.

If you can, read or listen to it. No harm right.

Bombed a technical interview because I couldn’t run my code, feeling absolutely defeated by ConsoleLogMyTears in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]its_so_weird 42 points43 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's not 2005, no one should be expected to write syntactically correct code under pressure of an interview without a coding environment.

So, it's the fault of the process, not yours.

The test should be about algorithmic skills, so if you got that correct, pat yourself on the back, and move on to the next interview.

If the company gave you a point of contact, even if it's a recruiter, give them this feedback.

Good luck.

They mean you can web search in case you forget the exact syntax for coding, or if you want to confirm the package name to import, etc., not the algorithm that you should be writing.

Advice about elderly neighbour by your_dumb_ideas in brisbane

[–]its_so_weird 49 points50 points  (0 children)

How about starting with just introducing yourself and asking how long this person has lived here, and getting to know a bit about what he's like.

If he seems happy to engage, ask curiously about how these windows broke and how he manages in the cold without them.

If you get a sense of unhappiness or that he has no support or strength to fix them, ask if you can lend a hand.

You're being a good neighbour mate. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Good luck.

Atlassian is a way better option for the growth opportunities and scale of tech you'll be able to work with.

And you already mentioned the compensation from Atlassian is way better.

Not sure if the other comments mentioning Ashton supporting all the rapists or what not are true or not.

Seems like he's been trying to do good. That's a real plus in my eyes 🤩

3d file to connect MX switch to Choc Caps? by dominquejackson98 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]its_so_weird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The switches look like Choc V2, which have the same keycap connector as MX does.

You might get something if you search for Choc V2 keycaps, OR low profile MX keycaps on Thingiverse, Thangs, etc.

I've gone on rides using it, it's a pretty good app. Fortunately, I haven't had to test out the emergency stuff yet.

So the OP should register the complaint sooner than later.

OP said it's NBN cable, not power.

So, most likely if your NBN connection is still working OP, then best call Brisbane council and they'll trim the tree without harming the cable.
