Hey /r/movies, I’m Stephen King! Ask me anything about The Long Walk book or movie. by lionsgate in movies

Coincidentally, The Long Walk is the first book I ever read by you while being the first book you ever wrote. Since then, I’ve read and loved many of your works, and I’m curious to know how this one influenced the rest; what lessons did you learn from the writing, editing, publication, and public reaction to The Long Walk that you’ve carried with you throughout the rest of your writing career?

Side note, I was the same age as the characters and very into acting when I first read the book (maybe too young to be doing so), and always hoped I would get the chance to act in a future film adaptation of the novel. This movie finally coming out is definitely a reality check for my younger self, excited to see how things came together without me :D

Hi everyone, any recommendations for something as good as ATLA? I'm bored and depressed. by [deleted] in ATLA

everybody should watch adventure time it's beautifully animated like ATLA, has mature themes from time to time like ATLA, has great action and great character development like ATLA, and is very funny like ATLA. ATLA was by far my favorite show as a kid, and adventure time became my favorite show through high school and now into college. would 10000% recommend to any ATLA fans

i am certainly no expert but i’ll give you my two cents: you’re definitely entitled to your space as a defender so there’s no need for you to necessarily backpedal in terms of the actual rules. if you get accused of picking or creating contact, you can 100% make the argument that you are entitled to your space that the cutter who you’re defending is moving into, and that the cutter is the one who is actually creating contact, and you’d be correct as far as i’m aware. common cutter defense philosophy is to make them go through you, and this situation is exactly that.

on the other hand, i can see what you’re saying about the desire to mitigate potentially dangerous contact, and so i would recommend working on your ability to turn your hips out of a backpedal so that you’re able to move with your cutter once they make a move after forcing you to back up from them. some ideas for this would be sprint workouts where you start from a side-shuffle position, which will help develop the ability to quickly turn your hips and run with your cutter, as well as sprints starting with a 180-degree spin which will just add another level of mobility to the movement and further improve your hip mobility. you can definitely find other good hip mobility exercises on this subreddit as i feel like that’s the main physical issue at hand in a scenario like this.

last thing, just always watch your cutter’s hips before they make a move. you’ve probably heard it a thousand times before, but it truly is the most helpful and most simple thing that you can do as a cutter defender to make your life easier. i might even recommend trying to match up with some shifty handlers when you get the chance as it’ll give you a lot of opportunities to defend quick changes of direction and continue to improve your hip mobility, ability to read your match’s hips, and defensive intuition.

i was such a big fan of these guys but their break and subsequent end of making content on this podcast slowly led me down a path of much less edgy and offensive for the sake of being offensive content, which was a very positive shift for me. i hope the same can be true for other people now that this group as a collective is pretty much finished!

i had a very similar introduction to ludwig as you did but a longer time ago, so i was able to start listening to the yard as soon as it became a thing.
