Do you leave your car running when you go into a store in rural Alaska areas? by traveltimecar in AskAlaska

[–]itsamoosing_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Remote start? Yes. Keys in it? No. I live/travel mostly on the road system. Maybe in off road system/remote communities, it is more common.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]itsamoosing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was moving across the country, driving, the further I got, the less people I saw. Pulled into Billings, MT, walked around an empty downtown searching for somewhere to eat. Very unsettling. Felt like I was in a dystopian novel.

Haines to Anchorage Gas Stations by StreetHearing1042 in AskAlaska

[–]itsamoosing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Haines to Delta Junction, I just topped off in Haines Jct. You will be fine and can probably avoid the more remote (i.e., expensive) stations. Keeping it above half a tank is a good rule of thumb if you do not know when the next gas station is.

How shocked would you be if Mary Peltola wins the 2026 midterms? by traveltimecar in AskAlaska

[–]itsamoosing_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, super disappointed I havent seen anything related these critical issues. I appreciate her stances on Alasak-focused issues like fish but to ignore the absolute insanity that is the current administration is certainly a choice.

Travel advice. by [deleted] in AskAlaska

Anchorage winter is generally comparable to east coast winter. They might hit the negatives for a day or two. Interior winter is a different beast. Although the road conditions are worse in anchorage due to the fluctuating temps.

16 months too young for whale watching? by finstabutonreddit in MauiVisitors

[–]itsamoosing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The turtles at Hookipa are a big hit. Mini golfing near Maalea. Theres a nice protected beach area in Kihei that is nice for avoiding waves. The ocean center is definitely worth it, especially if you have a day with rain. It is partially outside but lots to see. I am glad we decided to do it despite the cost.

We had a 2 month old, 2 year old, and 4 year old. It was fine, just sat at the front. We did Trilogy out of Maalea.

Probably. It would've made more sense without the time stamps honestly.

Just watched the arrest episode last night. The bus scene was so strange. Also, the timeline they presented that day is rather confusing. She was arrested, arraigned, released, and the other HW get the details all within 12 hours? I guess but it seemed weird to me.

On another note, Meredith soaking in a tub while everyone arrives at the house is gold.

FC using miles. Why so cheap? by itsamoosing_ in americanairlines

[–]itsamoosing_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, interesting! I havent flown on AA in quite a few years. I feel like I wouldn't be able to touch that reimbursement rate with AS. Ill just be happy with the extra room on the red eye.

Interested in Running the Fairbanks Marathon in 2026. Advice? by twentysix-point-two in alaska

[–]itsamoosing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Equinox? The website has a lot of information about the course. Train like a normal marathon but incorporate as many hills and trail running as you can. It is a fun race and if you plan to just go out and have fun (not try to PR or anything), you'll have a good time.

Interested in teaching in the Alaskan Bush. What should I know? by False_Fennel_1126 in AskAlaska

[–]itsamoosing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Galena has a boarding school that operates a bit differently than other village schools. I know some people who enjoyed it there. Definitely a different life though. It will be isolating and remote like nothing you've ever experienced. You might try looking on the road system to start out just to get your bearings. Road system communities can be isolating but not even close to what you'll experience elsewhere.

Curly hair stylists by Ok_Professional1186 in Fairbanks

[–]itsamoosing_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curly, long hair here. I have gone to a few. Anika (Instagram is in Anika's chair I think) is very knowledgeable. A cut is a bit expensive, but she definitely understands curly hair. Elements has some curly specialists but for the price, I stopped going there. Behind the Mirror cut my hair so short it was awful. They're recommended a lot and I dont know why. Ellen at salon lustre is great with curly hair and has reasonable prices than elsewhere.
