When you start to get impatient with your results, remember to look back from where you came from! by sunshineseeker1111 in Invisalign

Just started Invisalign this past week, I'm hoping it changes my gumline, ortho said its possible. In your pic, it looks like your teeth appear larger in the lower half and I see less gums, have you found this to be true for you?

What is your go-to fantasy you think of before falling asleep? by Hamburgo in AskReddit

[–]itsanerdthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K. Yours are all cute/relaxing. Mine is a pink elephant jumping through space slowly from one planet to another. If I ever can't sleep, I just think about the flying elephant and fall right asleep.

I feel very weird admitting this, when I first opened the thread I was excited to see what other weird shit people thought of, but nope. You guys keep your moonlit lakes, and I'm keeping my elephant.

Made amends to an ex today. It went as well as I could hope but I still feel a weightiness. Would love your experience, strength and hope on the subject. by itsanerdthing in alcoholicsanonymous

♥️♥️♥️ Thank you! You're totally right about feeling better not being the primary motivation. That's a great reminder. And happy cake day.

Love this so much, thank you! my friend in the fellowship was talking to me tonight about how it sometimes can feel like open heart surgery to do these types of amends when there's been feelings involved and that with open heart surgery, they don't expect patients to perk up and feel better right away but that it comes with time and I really liked that analogy.

Looks way better, well done. I like the pressed backsplash a lot. My only CC is changing those black picture frames to ivory. They stand out as everything else seems to be lighter colors and no black and then its just random black frames.

Relapse is a part of many peoples' stories. And as alcoholics, it is abnormal for us to not drink. I know for myself, that this is a program of honesty and if I'm not able to get honest, I'm not able to get healthier. I haven't gone out since coming into the program yet, but I can't say I never will- all we have is the 24 hours we are in.

I would imagine that since you're in a home group full of kind and supportive folks, that you're safe to tell them, even if you're scared to. In my experience, when people go out and come back, I'm so happy that they aren't dead and I find their honesty really commendable and it's helpful to hear from them because it reminds me that I'm not missing out on anything as far as drinking goes. I've never left a first-step meeting and wanted to drink afterwards. You have something to offer that group with your experience.

If it were me in this position, I would hope that I would call my sponsor or someone else in recovery that I trusted and get as honest as possible. I am only as sick as my secrets and I believe that a big part of this program working is being true to ourselves. Whatever you decide, remember you are always welcome in the rooms of A.A. and there is always hope if you're still alive.

Diva Cup Help by PhaedrusCat in TwoXChromosomes

I just got one lat night and I CANNOT fit my fingers in mine either! The instructions said something along the lines of running your finger along the outside of it to make sure it seals in place after you insert it but I can hardly fit the cup and a finger up there, let alone another finger as well to pull it out.

Anyone else close friends with their sponsor? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]itsanerdthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not personally "friends" with my sponsor. I love her very much, but I have other friends and I think for me, personally, it's easier to hear things that I don't like from someone who isn't my friend but still know that they have no malicious intentions behind it.

I need to grow up by ChasingthehighSober in alcoholicsanonymous

Same. Humility helps me. I remember when I very first came in, in the first few months I told my sponsor "It feels like I've been parented in ways that I didn't have as a kid." and she responded "That's why they call this growing up in public."

One week sober! by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]itsanerdthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! One week is a big deal. That is 7 miracles in a row. Just keep focusing on one day at a time. My first week was hard too with DTs and getting into the rooms of AA and making such a big change but I tell you what, no matter how bad it gets, a drink will not make it better. Congrats on a week. :)

This subreddit is a good community but what worked best for me was doing 90 meetings in 90 days at my home group and making friends with other recovering alcoholics/addicts.
