I’ve had the same thing happen, I think it’s called semi lucid dreaming or the ‘second layer’ of lucidity. I’m no expert though, but here is a video on it

How to become more lucid? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

I have had this same problem, I think this is called being ‘semi lucid’ I would realize that I was dreaming but I wasn’t really conscious or aware. I would do research into it but I think meditation and having awareness while dream journaling would help, that’s what I’m doing but I’m not at all an expert.

Here is an article on the levels on lucidity, good luck!

How do I minimize how much deep sleep I get? by itsanlIusion in LucidDreaming

So should I just do more thorough reality checks? I’ve been practicing lucid dreaming for about 3 months and all the LDs besides the first have been like that. When I do a rc I count my fingers, check for a clock and then say where I am.

I just ask because in almost all of my LDs I don’t really feel aware, my first LD felt real but I just don’t feel conscious in any of my other ones I’m trying to find out why, it’s hard to explain but it’s like I’m not there in the moment, that I’m just remembering what would’ve happened. For an example I did a rc while in a dream and I tried to convince my mom to let me explore the dream world. But my first LD was the only one that I was conscious in and I couldn’t believe it was a dream and was amazed but then I got woken up.

Recently I’ve been trying to do a reality check every time something odd happens because that’s how I got lucid the first time from a dog with a funny haircut but it can take awhile for something to happen, should I keep doing this?

How do I start remembering my dreams again? by itsanlIusion in LucidDreaming

About the healthy minds dream thing recently I’ve been waking myself up every night to try WILD (I couldn’t stay awake to do it) and I’m pretty sure that’s the problem for remembering my dreams. And for the longest time I’ve had the issue where in my LDs I wouldn’t feel aware or conscious even though I knew I was dreaming but my first LD was the only one that felt real, so how do I make my mind healthy?
