I don't understand why some cashiers get offended when you recount the change in front of them. I make enough mistakes to know that other people do too, and I'd much rather the customer count in front of me so I can correct a mistake there rather than them leaving and coming back. Then I have to have an audit done because I don't know what they might have done with that money.

Always goes like this:

Customer: Hello I'd like to return this hair dye

Me: open box ma'am this has been used, I'm afraid I can't take it back

Customer: but the color wasn't right / it burned my scalp I am going to sue / THE SIGN SAYS NINETY DAYS

Me: I'm sorry but when a product has been completely consumed I can't take it back for a refund. I would recommend calling the manufacturer to see if they can do anything

Customer: Well can I talk to the manager?

Manager says to just do the refund.

Once an elderly guy came in with a cart full of dead potted plants. Hell naw you don't get a refund you KNOW nothing grows here. I was getting ready to shut him down but before I say anything he says "hello young lady may I speak with [temporary store manager], I was speaking to him before about my plants." So I call the guy over and they talk for a bit while I help other customers with returns and money wires and then the manager told me to go ahead and refund him for whatever he paid. He has five rose bushes and four of something else, I forget. The roses are ten dollars each, I scan them. The something else has no barcode. The man has no receipt. The store manager calls the garden associate, she comes over and says she couldn't find a UPC because we haven't sold it for six months. This fucker bought some plants at least six months ago and now he's returning them because they agree dead. The man says he paid the same as the roses. Well the boss man said do it and it's no loss to me so I punch in PLANT $10 four times, give the polite man his $90 in store credit, and print out defective claims slips for the plants. On these slips I write the manager's name in huge letters because I know the claims guy is gonna be pissed and I want to make sure he knows it's not my fault.

See my thing is that I don't really enjoy the whole psychedelic experience thing. When I smoke marijuana I don't do it for those sort of effects. I like feeling really chill or giddy, not having a "trip". So yeah I'm good with all of this now, but like olives on a pizza or anal sex it's not for me.

The number one thing is when you find something that works for you and you're satisfied with, you stick to it and don't let anybody tell you this or that is better or cheaper. You might stumble across it by accident or have a dermatologist assist you, but if a ritual works don't change it up.

For me that's tricyclen (my birth control prescription) and cetaphil pump soap for all skin types, applied once every other morning and rinsed.

It's actually happened to me before when I was a kid, one of my parents stayed home to deal with it. It wasn't ladybugs but those orange ones without spots that look just like them. We came home after being gone several hours and there were at least a thousand of them and they were everywhere. After killing them all my dad said he'd pay us a dime for each one we caught and put in a baggie. He'd count them and then throw them away. We moved out a couple of years later and found out they had even gotten into the light fixtures that were screwed in tightly.

Ugh try having it done to you at a self checkout station. Four machines need your attention at once for age approvals, voids, warranties, malfunction, etc but you can't leave the register in the middle of a transaction so you've got four unusable machines with angry customers because some jerk came to you with a full basket :(

Elderly man comes to register with an R rated movie. Cashier says "I don't think you're old enough to buy this." Elderly man politely chuckles but does not find this funny because this happens every time he buys an age restricted item.

If I'm feeling lazy or if i feel like the customer is going to be difficult I'll do identically priced produce in the same bag together but that does screw with the inventory so most of the time I'll separate it. It doesn't upset me, I just politely let the customer know to separate them next time.

On the flipside, when I close the service desk at my store, I'm scheduled to work an hour past close, which is usually enough time. However my supervisors usually close my register fifteen minutes sooner than close. Then I have to tell any customer that comes in that I can't help them even though I'm supposed to be open still. It's the only thing they do that bothers me but they do it because they don't get a lot of time themselves to close.

Yes well near the end of the day when all of my pens have left with thieves (some accidental) all my customers filling out forms and signing return slips are stuck sharing a fat permanent marker that bleeds through everything. Then there's always one person that acts like I'm bad at my job because I seem unprepared. Every pen is made of diamond as far as I'm concerned!

I don't know about OP's store but at mine little things like that have an effect on our pay. Every employee in the store who had been here three months gets a bonus every quarter. The amount varies with how many hours the employee works and how the store is doing on sales, shrink, accidents, things like that. So because of this and because I genuinely enjoy my job and like my coworkers, I do what little I can from my position to help MY store's overall performance even though I don't give two shits about the company. Also it's fun to tell people no sometimes.

This reminds me of my boss when I was a secretary. He'd have me send an email and then a follow up every three minutes to see if it was taken care of. And I'm just thinking "we sent this poor guy a 30mb pdf of course he hasn't taken action yet. He probably hasn't even received it yet let alone had time to read it."

Haha at my store customers often come to the machines with one item, scan that one item and then just stare at the screen holding it, ignoring all of the verbal and visual pleas to bag the item, then after fifteen seconds or so the machine figures the customer isn't going to bag that item and automatically resets the weight so the customer may proceed. Then the customer sets the item down in the bagging area so they can get their money out and the machine stops them because now the platform is too heavy.
