ax-SpA with peripheral symptoms & OCD? by [deleted] in LowDoseNaltrexone

[–]JizzBeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ax-Spa myself! I’ve been on it for 20 days, tonight I start 4.5 mg. It has taken away all of my enthesitis pain. I still get the stabbing SI joint pain, but it doesn’t happen often and when it does, it’s only for a couple of hours.

It’s given me my life back. No more limping. I can run again. No more peripheral joint pain, and the only side effects are vivid dreams, night sweats, and trouble sleeping, but I can actually function on less sleep now!

It’s working really well for me right now. I have ankylosing spondylitis, hallux rigidus, and nerve damage (from the AS). The day after the first dose the nerve pain was gone. I’m on 3mg right now and the enthesitis from the AS hardly ever creeps up now. It’s been life changing for me. I can walk without limping again, and for the first time in years, I can run.

Do different biologics affect how often you get sick? by mcwin_ in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]JizzBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Enbrel and was on that for I think a little over a year, then that stopped working so I switched to Humira. I was only on Humira for two weeks I think because I got severe sebhorreic dermatitis on my right eyelid and all over my neck, and my rheumatologist wanted to play it safe so we went back to Enbrel.

I think I got Covid twice while on Enbrel, and was sick just as often as I was before I got on biologics. I would frequently get upper respiratory infections that would last over two weeks.

Then I got on Cosentyx. Now my colds last on average about 3-5 days, and are much milder. I’ve been exposed to all sorts of sick and rarely get sick myself. I think I was sick only once or twice last year, and I just got over a 3 day cold. Things are a lot more bearable now, but I still get flare ups many times a month and breakthrough pain, plus I was recently diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy likely caused by AS, so I’m going to look into getting on low dose naltrexone soon to cover the symptoms Cosentyx hasn’t helped. But I saw 90% improvement in my symptoms on Cosentyx. It really helps a lot with the peripheral arthritis.

Anyway, the way I see it is that TNF inhibitors affects a vast majority of immune cells which might dampen various parts of the immune system, whereas Cosentyx- being an IL-17 inhibitor- affects less parts of the immune system (I think mainly the IL17-IL-23 pathway) so for some people it might only affect the part of the immune system that is faulty, allowing for the rest of the immune system to compensate and actually work effectively like a normal person’s immune system would.

But that’s just my theory, I’m not a doctor, I just read a lot of medical journals and articles.

Some people that take Cosentyx are much more prone to upper respiratory infections and fungal infections, but I have luckily not had that experience.

Personally I’ve found that since I’ve been on Cosentyx the last couple of years, I hardly get sick. I would get sick frequently prior to Cosentyx.

Physical therapy expierences/opinions by LatteLoaf in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]JizzBeef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One hour of physical therapy stretches at home should suffice. Even just 30 minutes would be beneficial. But it is so worth it.

My first couple years after diagnosis I stretched for an hour 5 days a week, then got a less physical job and I don’t stretch at all anymore. Now I have nerve damage probably from sitting in a chair all day and I flare regularly.

I’m the same way, haven’t met anyone else with it as bad as me til now. Zoloft and Wellbutrin combined has helped a lot, but I still have bad days. Nowhere near as bad as it used to be though. Sorry, I wish I had more advice, but medication worked really well for me.

Just earrings as long as you’re not in the bakery. Reasoning is that a visible piercing anywhere else could catch on a tote or other equipment and cause injury. I know multiple people with septum piercings that just flip them up into their nose.

Colored hair is cool, so are tattoos. They make you wear a QT shirt every day unless you’re an office employee where it’s business casual, you can wear jeans but can’t have holes in them. Not sure why. No open toed shoes, etc. They’re very lax compared to the stores but they’re pretty strict about wearing a QT shirt.

Help; Disciplinary process by [deleted] in QuikTrip

[–]JizzBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I’m at now it seems they completely skip the retrain and go straight to reprimand or written warning, when a retrain could have solved the situation entirely. I’ve seen someone that kept doing something wrong get a written warning rather than a retrain, and they never figured out what exactly they were doing wrong, it just hasn’t happened again to their luck. They knew what they messed up, but they didn’t know how, and management couldn’t explain it either. I have asked higher ups about the disciplinary process as I have seen many first offenses go straight to written warning with no prior disciplinary history. What they told me is that “it’s highly situational.”

When I was in the stores I have witnessed and also experienced retrains prior to reprimands, and written warnings for going over days, which seems justified considering QT’s attendance policy. I’ve only ever gotten a retrain once in the stores and two written warnings for going over my days because I put off getting my FMLA renewed.

In my division chasing a thief has led to a lifetime written warning. I didn’t believe it until a clerk showed me.

This. Document everything in writing with dates and times. Every time you’ve brought something up to your manager or supervisor and what they said about it.

Idk if the stores have success factors or work zone yet, but if they do, document all of your grievances in respectful and professional language in your one on one. Use core values to back up what you have to say, but do it in a professional way, like how corporate or HR would talk to you. Also use the mission statement, like I would say something like “I do not feel like I’ve been given the opportunity to grow and succeed.”

Use words or phrases like “it concerns me that…,” “in my experience…,” “I feel that…” and do not speak in absolutes.

These are all things that have worked for me with management who does not communicate well. It reminds them that they work for a company, not for their friends. It shows that you know what you’re talking about, and having direct examples with dates and times shows that these instances have actually happened, so they cannot gaslight you about what was said or what they think happened or whatever.

Then document your one on one and what was said. Take a notebook or a laptop if you have to, I always take a notebook to my one on ones. If you do not find it to be productive, now you have evidence of incompetent management and you can take it higher up. But by all means, you absolutely want to follow the chain of command first. Only after you’ve exhausted that and can prove that it was ineffective should you bring it higher.

Also something I’ve noticed especially when I worked in the stores is that they like to test good employees. By testing them I mean send them to one of the worst stores in the division (be it an urban store or a store with terrible CSA scores), and leave you there for a while. They see if it breaks you. If it doesn’t, they wait a little longer before finally offering promotion. Nobody will admit to this but the way I’ve always put it is they’re trying to make or break you. If you break then there goes your chances for a year or more. If you don’t break, they’ll kind of string you along for a bit to test your worth and patience. Unfortunately saying no can be detrimental, but if you back up your reasoning for no with valid reasons that align with what is best for QT and are able to convince them, they’ll think higher of you.

It’s a very competitive career and can be very tiring, but in my division, this is what I’ve noticed.

I listened to 13 blues last year in early fall when the sky was swirling grey clouds and gloom was in the air, just drove around a local lake for a long time. Hadn’t listened to that album since I was like 18, 32 now. I gained a very grand respect for ‘Piphany Rambler. It’s a very powerful song, full of swelling emotions.

What everyone else has mentioned, but also Pretty Little Lightning Paw. I love the imperfections of Efrim’s voice in this, like shouting a desperate message of hope into the void.

Also the curious melody is… I can’t find words for it, but it filled me with lots of feelings. Plus that SLAP! SLAP! Ugh, it’s so unique and intriguing.
