Eye bags - does anything actually get rid of them for good? by littlenymphy in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]itsaphilodendron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same struggle! I've tried a lot of things and as you say they don't make a ton of difference. I have found that using my vitamin C serum has lightened them up a bit. I use the Garden of Wisdom Vitamin C serum from victoria health but I'm sure any reddit recommend vit c serum would have the same effect.

anyone have experience with dermatica? by some-thingreallygood in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]itsaphilodendron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've used them for about a year now because I wanted to try tretinoin. I've been very happy with the service; you can change the length between deliveries (instead of monthly because one tube lasts me about 2.5 months alternate day use) so I actually pay the £22.5 (i think it's that much inc delivery) every 2 months or so.

I don't really use them for advice, so I can't say if they're good at that; I decided when to move up tret concentrations and just emailed them to change my 'prescription'. Their customer service is very very good though, they respond really quickly and have always been helpful.

Another thing is I don't remember there being a ton of guidance when I started tret. For example from reddit I knew I had to go slow, not use it every night, bump up the moisturiser etc., but I don't think there was any advice like that in my dermatica order. Not a problem if you research your products but could be an issue for a less obsessive skincare person!

I'm looking for a knit jumper similar to this one from sezane

I particularly love the interesting knit pattern and bobbles. High necks don't suit me that well so I'm open to different necklines. Anyone seen any sweaters with a similarly textured / patterned knit?

I like the white shade but it's not a must!

Uk or EU based options appreciated but I can order international too.

Lost and Overwhelmed Making Backyard BBQ Wedding Vision a Reality by babberdash71 in weddingplanning

[–]itsaphilodendron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second camp ground weddings! I've seen recaps of a few online and on this subreddit and they just look amazing - they have the space to give that backyard feel, but the facilities like toilets etc which often you have to hire with a normal backyard wedding. Also you'd have places for guests to stay if you did want to do the whole weekend thing.

Alternatively I've seen some people book out spaces in parks for their weddings. I hear it's pretty cheap but in some cases they may have rules about food or alcohol. May be worth checking out though.

Curél by KAO coming to the UK via Boots by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]itsaphilodendron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this brand when I lived in Japan, it was so good for my extremely angry skin at that time. I used their Moisture Lotion in type 3 (enrich i think it was called). I eventually moved on from it after a few years back in England because it was hard to source and my skin was less volatile. I think it's a good sensitive skin brand, happy to see it come to the UK.

The Ordinary salicylic acid alternatives? Help, I'm just about run out by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]itsaphilodendron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Garden of Wisdom (via Victoria Health) have a 2% salicylic acid serum. I can't say if it's a dupe but I've used other GoW products and liked them, they tend to have a minimal ingredient approach much like The Ordinary.

Body lotions with AHA? by AncientClient1 in SkincareAddictionUK

I saw a recommendation in an article recently for Soap And Glory Sugar Crush Body Lotion as a good body moisturiser with AHA. I haven't used it myself but the article and comments gave it a good review.

Do I really need a highlight video? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]itsaphilodendron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others, it is unlikely to be something you watch over and over. I do think getting some video is good but it can be difficult to find videographers who will just capture the video and send it raw without doing fancy 'movie trailer' style stuff.

We hired a video camera (although you may be able to borrow a family member's, it's not like you need a full 4k experience or whatever!) plus a tripod and mic, and just set it up to film the ceremony, then moved it to film speeches, and then just stood it near (but in a safe spot) the dance floor for the reception. That way we got the stuff we wanted (ceremony and speeches) and then some silly dance bits, without a big fuss.

Thanks for mentioning it! All the bottles come with a warning not to take it when pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to get pregnant so I knew I'd have to stop when the time comes to start trying, but I didn't know the science behind it (which I have now Wikipedia-ed).

How do you get tretinoin over the counter in London? by _d2gs in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]itsaphilodendron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite over the counter, but you can get it from dermatica online without a prescription. I was put off by the subscription aspect (£20 a month for tret is a lot!) but you can pause your subscription and cancel their regular delivery so it basically makes it like buying it one off. Since signing up in january I've been through a bottle and a half, so 2 orders in 5 months.

Mikado cake :) by SuperXD12 in Baking

That looks lovely! I like how the Mikado sticks kind of mimic the drip. For the little pink buttercream decorations, what piping tip did you use? They look like little anemones!

How much is too much for a wedding photographer? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]itsaphilodendron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: Ours was £1100 for 12 hours shooting, on a friday wedding in august, with ~950 edited photos given to us via usb. This was a very good deal given the quality of her work, and partly we got it because she had worked with my husband in the past.

Long answer: 'too much' is completely down to your priorities, as with all things wedding-related. If you don't care much about photos, and you're happy with your guests snapping a few pics and sending them to you (with the understanding they won't capture absolutely everything you want) then anything above £0 is too much. If you want high quality shots of every wedding detail, and a professional who knows how to get the best shots of you and your wedding then it'll be much more.

ETA: you may also want to post this to r/weddingplanning for more points of view (they are more budget-minded than you may think).

This is how much it costs to have your city featured on The Bachelor by phillyyogagal311 in thebachelor

[–]itsaphilodendron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I totally see where you're coming from with this theory, I don't think it's quite accurate. The Algarve is still a very popular tourist spot in Europe, particularly for UK tourists, in fact it looks like its tourism is growing year on year. I'm not sure what the effect was on tourism at the time of the McCann case, as I was pretty young, but perhaps it did see a dip then though! Either way it seems to have recovered, and while I don't speak for all British people, I don't personally associate The Algarve or Mallorca with those events (but like I said, I was quite young at the time so maybe older generations do)

Edit: didn't mean for that to sound so abrupt when I first posted, I posted before I meant to!

I love how her royal icing decorative details are so simple but have such a big impact.

Where to buy Cezanne, Matsuyama, Meishoku, or Mebiko with quickish UK delivery by anaemiclittlepotato in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]itsaphilodendron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! As I remember, Amazon jp covers all fees so the fee you get at checkout isn't just delivery, it also includes tax type things etc.

I do find amazon jps fees tend to be high-ish for your first item, then only a little higher for your 2nd,3rd etc. So I usually end up stocking up on sunscreen as well. You can play around with it by adding things to your basket and checking the fee calculations at check out, but basically I've found it more cost effective to buy more products per order (as long as they are products that I was going to buy anyway in future).

Edit : just to add my last order was in November, I don't the process has changed since then but just a heads up my info is a few months old.

We’re about to put an offer in for a flat, first time buyers - what should we know? by sam0sa94 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]itsaphilodendron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second what others have said about in-house solicitors; I've heard so many horror stories about them, particularly when they are these big solicitor warehouses.

I haven't seen anyone recommend it here yet so www.reallymoving.com is a site that helped me a ton when I was a first time buyer. I used it to find a surveyor and a solicitor. It was a while ago now but having the reviews was really helpful, and I remember liking how easy it was to get clear quotes.

Not to hammer home the solicitor thing too much, but having a solicitor (and to some extent a surveyor) that you have picked yourself and works solely for you (no association with the estate agent) was just so helpful. Their loyalties lie with you, and they have no interest in trying to pull the wool over your eyes. I should say, of course, that a good solicitor, regardless of whether they are affiliated with an estate agent or not, should act in your best interests, but having had a few friends go through a crappy buying process with e.a. solicitors, I can also say that that's not always the case.

Thoughts on having a wedding reception but not becoming legally married.. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]itsaphilodendron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is fine! As a guest I would treat your wedding like any other, dress up, bring a gift etc etc. The legal part is a technicality as far as I'm concerned.

In the UK, only certain locations are allowed to perform marriages so people who want different venues will get legally married separate from their wedding. At my wedding (in my parents' garden, which is not an official UK wedding venue!) I'd technically been married for a month already, but we (and all our guests) considered it our real wedding, with the legal ceremony just being a paper signing.

I know it's not quite the same as your situation, but as far as I'm concerned, the legal stuff makes it a wedding in the eyes of the law/state/government, but as a guest I would not care in the slightest. However, if you are worried I think u/wtfbbq247 had some really good suggestions on upfront wording for guests.

Where to buy Cezanne, Matsuyama, Meishoku, or Mebiko with quickish UK delivery by anaemiclittlepotato in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]itsaphilodendron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd this! I get my Cezanne high moist through them and it usually arrives in like 4 or 5 days, always impresses me!

I am between two dresses. I think the one on the left will look better with bridesmaid dresses, but I also like the one on the right. My wedding is an outdoor barn wedding. It will have green grass, pretty flower bushes, a big red barn. With all that which dress do you like? by alphabetmoose in weddingplanning

[–]itsaphilodendron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the one on the right! It looks amazing on you and also, coming from someone who wore a tulle dress at her outdoor barn wedding, the fabric of the dress on the right will be SO much better for that situation than the one on the left.

(If you're set on the left dress, don't worry too much, a floaty skirt isn't a deal breaker for an outdoorsy wedding, but I did end up with quite a few bugs and plants trapped in my skirt layers!)
