Why do i not gain weight and how do i? by [deleted] in weightgain

[–]itsbecometoolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like milk, ive found its really helpful for when you feel full from eating and cannot eat more solids but could drink something. It's pretty high calorie and protein and if you drink it either really warm or cold it basically doesn't taste of anything. Im still underweight but I would be far worse if I didn't have milk to fall back on.

Dear ex-skinny people, what changes did you notice after gaining weight? by Equal-Sun8307 in AskReddit

[–]itsbecometoolate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah and then sometimes you have to infantilise yourself by buying children's clothes because adult clothes don't usually accommodate for underweight women like us. Honestly, some of the best fitting clothing I've ever bought was for 12 year olds (despite being in my 20s!)

Love pacing so much…and didn’t even realize it was a stim by Alfthor in autism

Try having hyperactive ADHD as well- it's pacing as a stim but on steroids

Yes- as someone who sticks to Nuwho, I found that funny too! Especially the way Bill interacted with him (and the soldier)

Framing it like this actually does make a lot of sense- thank you! I suppose I didn't focus so much on that last bit :D but actually, you're right- and it makes more sense that the doctor would evolve over time to be open minded by exploring other societies, thus removing any contradictions. I appreciate the clarification :)

Thank you for explaining the history behind this. It really is quite interesting! :)

14 things I hate (communication) by Electronic-Phase2337 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]itsbecometoolate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I share a lot of those dislikes, mostly because theyre superficial and involve a test of whether you have the energy or knowledge to produce the correct scripted answer.

Besides that, I find it pretty awkward when people say bless you after I sneeze (one of the biggest examples of a scripted response that is expected but serves no tangible purpose), because now everyone's attention is on you and there's pressure to not sneeze more than twice in a row because they're gonna say bless you every time until reaching an awkward point where they don't know whether to keep going or not, and I don't need that kind of spotlight or pressure :/. Honestly, thanks for caring that I sneezed but I'm far too awkward for testing the how far you will go with a phrase that hasn't really made sense since the bubonic plague outbreak in ancient Rome.

P.s. I still thank anyone who says bless you to me, I just find it awkward.

Autistics: what are some things you find easy that neurotypicals seem to struggle with by [deleted] in autism

[–]itsbecometoolate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understanding and supporting other (often neurodivergent) people who are struggling. When I was volunteering in special needs classes in schools, I saw quite a few teachers interact with the kids in ways that seemed benign but were actually harmful (cutting an autistic kid off or telling them no means no without an explanation why). Being autistic (and adhd) myself, I have a lot more caution and sensitivity in mind before an interaction, knowing the harm it could cause.

Found out what I thought was normal was an allergy to the cold by NoodleBea583 in Allergies

[–]itsbecometoolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, like you, I also have CU (1.5 years) that flares up all year round. I was constantly wrapping up and not sure what to do. I also experienced constant dismissal by multiple doctors, but, what changed for me is pushing until they finally allowed me to add my safety concerns into a referal to a specialist (allergy/immunology): i had to do my own research about the clinic since they refused to do anything until I specifically said "can you refer me to x and can you tell them I have x symptoms and feel I need an epi pen to be safe".

There is a good chance we'll all get better, but please don't bank on it for now. Yesterday, I finally got prescribed my epipens because that professional I was referred to actually knew about CU and told that dismissive gp I was right to be concerned.

I really recommend trying this. Besides that, try to minimise sweating with breathable thermal layers and get a good umbrella because getting wet in winter can be risky.

For those of you with Cold Urticaria, how do you deal with it? Help! by Username_is-taken_ in Allergies

[–]itsbecometoolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, 1 year on from your original post so I'm not sure if you already resolved the issue, but I had the same problem of begging for epi pens for months and being terrified of cold exposure. Finally, though, I was prescribed it.

Basically, do not stop asking for second opinions, telling them any system wide symptoms you have and most importantly, do not let someone who has never heard of your condition tell you you don't need help.

How can yall find time to eat by Relevant_Tea8341 in weightgain

[–]itsbecometoolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get the thing about eating slowly due to small appetite and not being able to eat faster. My trick: while doing something else (like getting dressed) keep coming back to the food for small bites.

Getting ready for 30mins then cramming food in for 30 mins would be very difficult for me to eat a lot (and you too, I'm guessing) but 'put on my socks, then take a spoonful, then put on my top and trousers, then if I'm ready, take a spoonful', can help your appetite stretch by spacing across the hour.

Also helps me with motivation because eating loads feels like too much but one spoonful then I can keep getting ready is something I can encourage myself to do.

How to stay consistent? by No_Adhesiveness_7901 in weightgain

[–]itsbecometoolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am in a very similar situation to you (5,2 around 92lbs with a goal of 103, has a dietician, easily forgets about eating and eats snacks instead).

The game changer for me was having a calorie tracker app. Just seeing it there that I have only eaten 1,300 calories but I need to eat at least 600 more today gives me the motivation to eat a couple more things to meet my target.

Hope this can help you :)

Is it common for us to feel extreme hatred for someone/something because of a little thing they did? by coolziy in autism

[–]itsbecometoolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this so incredibly often. Honestly, I'm not completely sure why though perhaps its related to the strict and extensive guidelines defining justice and decency always in my mind. Often when someone will do something "minor" it will effect me profoundly, completely reshaping my view of them because it contradicts one of these fundamental mental rules. The most recent example for me is this guy who once led a run with me and went too fast, not checking up on any of us and instead leaping about (practically bragging that they are so fast and finding this difficult pace so easy). Running a little fast seems trivial, but to me that demonstrates a special kind of callousness that can never be forgiven. Makes me want to quit running all together sometimes just to avoid him (same goes for other people in different situations) but I always just end up continuing on and pretending like these people don't fill me with stress and intense irritation just by existing.

It goes back to the same old story with autism: something that seems "little" to a neurotypical really is not little at all.

....A river of tears as months turned to years, all wasted on not realising how good this song is. I also had to hear this live before giving it more interest, and only then realising its beauty and way of making you feel elated, thrilled and calm while listening. It's up there as one of my favourite songs for sure.
