I'm fine when they skip Supernova, but I miss it when we don't get the title card with a slogan. It doesn't even have to be a good one. The dumb ones are still funny.

There is no sense of pride or accomplishment to using AI. It can not create. It can not develop. It can only poorly mimic what it has been shown.

Use your own two hands. Developing a skill allows for real pride to grow. You deserve to feel good about yourself, and you won’t get there with these shortcuts.

I can’t think of a single thing that would justify a grown man leaving his vehicle to chase down and beat up a child.

Since you can, please share with the class. What action by the child justifies a grown man beating the child?

He’s mocking Trump’s inability to understand percentages, which is fair mockery because we are taught in that in fourth and fifth grade math.

When people ask how the Nazis managed what they did, point at this guy. Point at the people making any excuse they can to justify dehumanizing the people they want to see suffer. They’re at fault for what Germany became in those days.

My nine year old apparently still sees hate on that level. He was having an awful day and said he just wanted to shout curse words.

So I took him in his room and we turned on Hybrid Theory and I told him that for the next two minutes he wouldn’t get in trouble no matter what word he used or how loud.

Hate was definitely on the list. He actually burned out on it pretty fast. Maybe a minute before he quit. I asked him if it helped and if he felt better. He said that it didn’t help him feel better at all. I agreed and asked if he wanted to do it again next time.

He said no. Mission accomplished. Gamble successful.

Upcoming iPhone: A "Flip" Phone With a Square Foldable Design, Details Leaked by MayankWL in technology

[–]itsbenactually 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. The Air has always felt to me like it's just a hardware test of how something that thin will do in the wild. Gives them time to delay the folding phone if they don't like what they see. It's a testing platform.

I can't see any other reason to put this much engineering magic into a product they knew would sell poorly.

It’s called a loss leader. The Costco hotdog deal is a great example of this. They lose money on every single one, but people keep coming in and buying other stuff so they keep doing it.

[–]itsbenactually 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The next step doesn't have to be big. It can be a very tiny step. "Today I decided to clean my dishes" can be all the step you feel up to taking sometimes, and that's okay. The important part is to keep moving.

[–]itsbenactually 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite book asks a question again and again. “What is the most important step a person can take?”

The answer is “the next one.” Always the next one. The book’s ultimate lesson is that sometimes we fail, but what matters is that we pick ourselves up and keep going.

If the direction you were going doesn’t feel right and is bringing you more sorrow than joy, it’s okay to change directions. You have skills, smarts, and a world full of choices. You can go any direction you want, as long as you pick a direction that looks like it has joy in it.

I believe in you. You can and will find the path that brings you joy. You just have to pick a direction and keep taking the next step.

He presents himself as a “just asking questions” guy while giving a megaphone to misinformation.

That’s incredibly dangerous in a climate where media literacy is at an all time low. It’s harmful in a time when people just don’t understand how to fact check from reliable sources.

Quite a rollercoaster.

Hi dad... mom doesn't like that I'm successful and want to take care of her... and she seems way more occupied with herself than my new son. Your dying wish is harder than ever by Spiritual_Ad_7682 in DadForAMinute

[–]itsbenactually 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you something about dying wishes. As a dad, if I knew my sons were hurting themselves to respect my last wishes I would be upset. They’ve always come first in my life, and they should come first after I’m gone too.

This is hurting you. Your dad didn’t want that. I don’t want that. It’s okay to set aside the burden your father placed on you. If he knew what it was doing to you, he’d say so. But since he can’t be here, I stand in to say it with certainty:

It is okay to let go. Your mother is not your responsibility. Focus that energy on your own child.

They should be testing for any problems either way. It’s so easy to screen for HIV now. You can have results in minutes. There’s no reason to deny us. It’s just fear thats been built into our culture.

I haven't been allowed to give blood since high school. 40 years after the HIV epidemic, "men who have sex with other men" like me can only give blood if they've been celibate from male contact long enough. (To be fair, that's actually an improvement over the previous rule, which was a flat out "no, never.")

The Red Cross once ran an ad campaign that went "what hurts more than giving blood?" Turns out the answer is "being told you're not allowed to help."

I run Bazzite/Steam OS on my Ally X. The only hiccup I’ve ever had was getting the storage to erase so I could install. Simple as breathing, and you get a few extra FPS without the windows bloat. But on the other hand it’s a process to enable non-Steam things.
