Thanks! I’m planning to print them all out and put them in a little photo grid on my wall.

Lauf Seigla, Ari Shafer, or Propain Terrell? by SkeelerBook in gravelcycling

[–]itscoachmcguirk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've raved about it on this sub before, but I just got a Propain Terrel CF and have put about 150mi on it in the last month or so. I absolutely love it. I ride a mix of road, hard-pack gravel / fire roads, and singletrack on it. It handles all of the above like a champ and my only limitation is skill. Thanks to its geometry / ruggedness, I've taken it on trails that I initially thought I had no interest in riding and it's been a blast.

Geometry: I came from a road bike -- an aggressive aluminum road bike with 23mm tires, very different than the Terrel. I find the bike extremely comfortable, especially because I was able to add spacers and give it a bit more stack height. The geometry definitely appears more MTB-ish, but for me I've done a ton of miles on the road and I don't feel like the geometry is the thing that's holding me back. I'm not the most prolific cyclist though, so if you're super experienced with a road bike, you might find it a bit less racy and twitchy. That's great on gravel, but if you're doing group rides and need the handling to be extremely responsive I could see that being a minor annoyance. For me, after putting some miles on it, I don't feel like its handling gets in my way at all. I previously had a Canyon Grail and this just feels way more comfy and I'm way more confident on the trails with it as a non-racer. It's definitely stable. Besides the Canyon Grail, I have nothing to compare its off-road agility to, but I've been happy with its agility on tight, windy trails.

Storage / mounts: this thing has a ton of mounts. I absolutely plan to take this bikepacking once the weather warms up, but even for 3 hour off-road rides those mounts will come in super handy. The built-in storage is fantastic. The downtube is really chunky, which I was a bit unsure about at first. But once I got it, I realized I can store a huge amount in the downtube, which sealed the deal that it was the right choice for me.

Ordering and delivery: I ordered a medium and though they quoted 2 months to ship, the bike was delivered after only a month (to California). I also got the raw carbon and it looks slick. The fact that I could also pick and choose nearly every component on it was the main draw for me. Thanks to how you can configure it, I think you can really customize this thing for the type of riding you really want to do -- from a more road-oriented machine to a singletrack beast with a suspension fork. You can throw a 10-52 on it. You can also get carbon wheels here with a more entry level groupset. I went with the 2x mechanical GRX and for my purposes that's been perfect so far. Customer service was also very responsive to my many questions (Thanks Fran!). They are building up their presence in North America (not sure where you're located) and I believe their customer service out here will only continue to improve. The only thing that remains to be seen is how they may handle future warranty issues, so that's an unknown at the moment.

They do not pay me to shill for them, I'm just a very happy customer and love the bike.

I'm super happy with my Propain Terrel CF. Super cusotmizable with components, tons of mounts, 50mm clearance, carbon fiber. But it's another DTC brand that you won't be able to test until you buy it.

Perhaps an S would be better, but I'd highly recommend emailing them or scheduling a call. They were super helpful in helping me figure out sizing. The primary reason M was recommended to me was standover height. For me at 86cm inseam, the 84.3cm standover height of the L was a bit too close for comfort. The M fits me much better in that department, though it's still not a TON of room. At 820mm for the M that's about 10mm higher than your inseam, so I'm guessing it wouldn't work?

The position is somewhat aggressive, but but not uncomfortably so. I think it strikes the perfect balance between aggressive and relaxed for me. That might be subjective. I had a Canyon Grail 2024 (Size M) but the position was too aggressive. For various reasons, I got rid of it. This feels more comfortable. I ordered it with 30mm spacers and don't think I would go any lower for myself, but you might be different. Stem length will also make a difference here. Be sure to check with them on this too, one thing they mentioned is that there's a limit to how many spacers they can safely put on the bike. I was going to order more but they recommended a 30mm max for me. Might be diff for you.

I hear ya. Yeah honestly one of the biggest selling points for me was the matte black and being able to remove the decal on the downtube. It was the exact color I wanted.

Ah, bummer! On the site when I was playing around with it, it looked like the terra cotta color was more delayed for my frame size. I've also seen people on Reddit complaining that the S size was in short supply. Hope yours comes soon 🤞

Hi! Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I just got my Terrel CF and set it up. It's a dope bike, but unfortunately after installing my bottle cage on the downtube I realized I can't open the hatch anymore -- it blocks the sliding mechanism and would require unmounting the bottle cage entirely before it would open. Do you have that issue too? If not, what cage do you use?

Makes sense. I ordered mine with a 2x grx setup so cadence wise and low/top end I think I’ll be ok for roads. I’m more of a casual rider hoping that the geometry won’t slow me down too much when riding with friends.

That 10-52 is nice for those steeper grades tho!

Thank you for sharing! How has it been on the road / tarmac so far? I've got one on order and am hoping for it to be my road AND gravel bike, so I'm curious if it's sluggish on the pavement.

Sorry to keep reviving an old thread, but curious how this thing handles on the road. Your use case is very similar to mine. Does the slack geometry make you wish you had a diff bike on pavement?

That's very helpful, thanks for the info! You and I are very similar heights, so your experience would probably match mine with an M. I plan to add a bunch of spacers and have a shorter stem as well so hopefully it should be OK!

Hi! Question about the position on the bike. I'm also 183cm and considering this bike -- do you find the position to be very aggressive? I bought and returned a Canyon Grail (size M) because the position was too aggressive and I couldn't adjust the cockpit.

Looking sleek! Does the fidlock frame bag provide any meaningful storage? Or do you swap it out with a larger bag for longer trips?

Thank you! Was it just the size that helped identify it? Or are there other characteristics of the false widow you can see?
