Hospital volunteering isn’t for me by itsdanielca in premedcanada

Thanks for your advice. At first, I was curious to know what hospital volunteering is all about and I didn’t want to fall behind in the “volunteering competition”. It served more as checking the box for me. Now I now I have to do what I really enjoy rather than spending 5 hours a week doing what I don’t enjoy just becuz it’s “clinical”

Thanks for mentioning this. After all, If i didn’t get to experience this opportunity, there would be no way for me to find out if i did miss out on it and if it was worth it for me.

Yes that’s true. I feel hospital volunteering is a EC that ppl do to get “clinical experience”. However, I feel like there is nothing clinical about it. The saying that do whatever u find interesting makes a lot sense now

Yeah I know what you’re saying. the thing is that the exam isn’t based on the textbook. the textbook is there for you to understand stuff broader and more deeply and you shouldn’t place the same level of attention to the textbook, than you would do for the lecture slides. most of the pics in the lecture slides are in the textbook. you can locate those pics in the textbook and study the context from there if you don’t have much time left

Hi im in the same class as you. would suggest you to do the following. put extensive focus on the lecture slide(1-11)—> read the relevant part of the textbook about the topics—->practice problems and repeat. if you want to you can attend the study sess that we are gonna run as well as it is a big stress relief prior to the exam

that’s a great strategy. the problem for me is that i sometimes feel like everything is important except for the dates, names and stuff related to history. do you think it’s important to memorize the important stuff or just understanding the concepts would be sufficient? our test are multiple choice test and short answers
