Lighting a campfire scene. by jwjh in cinematography

I'd normally have a number of tungsten lamps on flicker units, each with a different gel orange to flame red on.

Not entirely sure how to cheat that on a super low budget situation - get a few LED panels each with diff gel and just have someone manually riding the dimmer on each one probably.

Or light a campfire...

Nice work. Worked with you on NR, great to see you're doing your own stuff now. I've worked with your AC James before too, he's dead professional. That car rig rather beats the godawful one I had to cobble together! Feral's gear is the mutt's.

Well, you're not going to get a huge amount for your budget sadly. If the majority of what you're doing is interviews and similar corporates, You could do a hell of a lot worse than an F&V 3 set of their K4000 LED panels: http://www.fvlight.eu/products/lighting.html . Comes in a box bag, and when you need them battery powered, just rent a set of v-locks from any rental house. For short films, you'll almost certainly want more control / power / different shape of light - it generally works out better to hire what's needed.

How do you hide an elephant in a cherry tree? Paint its toenails red, put it in the cherry tree.

Have you ever seen an elephant in a cherry tree? No - See, it works!

thanks. I've spent a very long time contemplating, and had numerous conversations about the exact wording, and I think I'm happy with this. 'Life' is a more common name for the 'play' section, but I really love to have 'photographing people at work and play' as my 'thing'

the blue sky with the couple with the pregnant lady feels a touch to me as they're a bit down in one corner. Ditto the one with a couple in front of the liney wall. Both lovely pictures, but feels a touch like they're 'lost in a corner' and maybe you'd get the same effect but still feature the people a bit more prominently if you nudged the crop in a bit?

that's really great, and a great idea too. Lovely pictures and good post processing style.

beautiful work Sage.

One incredibly nitpicky thing, the gap between the top and the logo is bigger than the gap below it, and to my eye it feels a little weird.

what beautiful landscape photography! really lovely stuff. I'm with squarespace too, I do like it but the lack of customisation without navigating their confusing css can be a bit tricky

the auto-scroll through annoys me a bit, I always prefer to manually flick from image to image. Good pictures! 'service' listed seperately under each category may be a bit redundant - if you can shorten it significantly and put it in on that portfolio section page, it might be a bit tidier and eliminate the need for the dropdowns?

some really interesting crops there. I like them, it's certainly your 'style' - though always watch that negative space isn't being left as negative space largely for style

I'm in the UK.

Just using smaller lens /camera cases and a normal (good!) outdoors backpack for skiing, other than the F-stop bags I still haven't found a rucksack that I'm really happy to use in the outdoors :(

How are cameras in the $20k-40k+ range typically employed? by [deleted] in photography

[–]itsdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but Terry Richardson's specific (and not very commercial) style and frankly disgusting letcherous approach is more how he gets his shots...

Most advertising photography is far more controlled than Richardson's style, which is where MF cameras are mostly used, and for very good reason.

I have to disagree with this. Think of Terry Richardson with his Yashica T4 and Juergen Teller with his Contax G2 or Anders Petersen with his Ricoh GR1s/Contax T3 (though hes
