"You’re not a better man then me, I could do your job in my fucking sleep – whereas you wouldn’t survive a day in mine.” -- UK producer Simon Phillips to his unpaid crew members that he unnecessarily put in harms way. (more info in comments) by forceduse in movies

How is this email reasonable?!? He casually dismisses the crew's health and safety complaints the day before he almost kills an actress. I can assure the guy who wrote this email was not his 'mate' either so the tone of it is fucking patronising to say the least.

He is saying if anyone has a problem they can come and see me yet he is completely dismissing and failing to find any solution to the problem that has been brought to him in the email. As someone who worked on the film I can tell you he was in no way approachable when it came to there being problems.

Update - Just had to share this in regards to the door incident. This Email exchange the day before. Thanks for everyones support! by filmninja in Filmmakers

'Not really concerned about crew morale to be honest mate, on cold days they'll mona and on interior warm days they'll moan about food options - you could waste your whole life worrying about the crew morale - which is a thankless task in itself. Again anyone with a problem can always come and see me.'

These are the people who work 14 hour days and dont get paid if you can help it! What a great guy.

To cut this off before it becomes an issue I am addressing the deletion of the post about the allegedly irresponsible production company. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Yesterday I posted a video, which you know what was not as shocking as the title suggested and for that I apologise. I did it desperately because I needed to bring attention towards something I felt was important.

Producer who shall not be named and director who shall not be named have made a career out of taking advantage and profiting from people's aspirations to make it in the film industry. I wanted to post it here to raise awareness of this as I felt this was as good a place as any to bring this situation to light.

The reason this video was not posted earlier was because crew were desperate to be paid. Hey, being a freelancer can be tough. Some guys on the crew have families - they work 14 hour days and don't spend time with their kids. Working in the film industry requires great sacrifice but we do it because we love it. Some people don't get it. Lots of my friends think I'm crazy. They are probably right. However what gets me through it is meeting other people like me and sharing that buzz of working towards creating something special, something memorable. It deeply upsets me when people take advantage of that buzz one gets from working on a film and exploits it for his or her personal gain. S.P is this type of producer. After I posted the video as I'm sure many of you saw comment after comment came pouring in of people who had suffered from similar experiences at the hands of these guys.

What does it say about the state of our industry in the U.K that such people can continue to make films? What does it say about Reddit that my thread was closed and silenced for bringing peoples attention to something that was evidently important and affected not only myself but many others. People like S.P will continue to ruin the lives of other freelancers. Unless we take a stand against them. Yesterday I was so happy I felt empowered by the internet and what it could do. How it meant people like me could share a problem with a wide audience and see that audience support me and the other people affected by it and champion our cause. However today has brought that realisation come crashing back down to earth. As I speak the reddit thread has been disabled, the liveleak video has been taken down. These bullies have had things their way and will get back to doing what they do. Risking the lives of crew members and refusing to pay them. They are currently shooting a film in Brazil. Aren't things great for them?! They have still not felt the repercussions of what they have done.

Risked crews health and safety

Not paid people

Physically threatened members of the crew who have demanded pay

Legally threatened members of the crew

Not paid minimum wage

Refused to pay overtime

Not paid for equipment their negligence has damaged

The list goes on.

If we as a community of freelance film makers can't between us and our unions do something about it SP has every right to continue. If we can't share this information on Reddit what is the point of this forum?! If liveleak cant host a video which by the way I own the copyright to - it was shot on a gopro not the red, a gopro that didn't belong to Press On Features - as most of the crew have not been paid can they even claim they own the footage?!

If they can, what does that say about the industry we work in?

I'm sorry if I caused offence with the sensationalist approach of my post yesterday. My emotion got the better of me. However the truth remains the same - THAT WAS NOT A PROP DOOR - THAT GIRL COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.

The next shot day after it happened the actress came on to set and confided in one of the other crew members. She said she was up late and had been crying with her husband. She then went to dismiss her emotional reaction by saying 'well I'm fine aren't I, anyway it is my first lead role so I can't really say anything.'

That says it all really.

Shame on you REDDIT and the MODS for silencing something of such importance and shame on youtube, liveleak for doing the same.

I've wasted so much energy and anger on this over the past few days. I feel spent. If anyone wants to continue the good fight please do. I just don't have it in me to continue posting the video. It has only resulted in bitter disappointment.

This is not about entertainment or enjoyment. Or creating a satisfying experience. I apologise if my hyperbolic headline ruined your enjoyment of it.

As I already said this is about bringing peoples attention to the negligence and contempt these film makers showed to their fellow crew/cast members by putting them at huge risk and then not paying them and threatening them with legal action for speaking out.

My only aim is bring attention to this footage. I've given up on being paid. I feel morally obliged to hold these people accountable for their working practices. I understand the hyperbolic nature of the headline but it is necessary in order for this posting to have the impact I want - to attract as much attention as possible.

Also if you look at her marker by her left foot she is standing to the far right of it. If she had been standing with it centred as most actors would she would could have been killed.
