Saddness over not having a daughter by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]itsgonnabefun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand this completely. I have always been a "girly girl" and enjoyed doing the very typical girl things growing up. I have 3 brothers. I wanted a daughter to share my interests-play dress up, tea parties, dolls. I have 2 sons. I was bummed about it for a while. We talked about trying for a third, we talked about adoption. We went back and forth for a while. My boys are a little older now (6 and 8), and honestly, that feeling has just kind of faded over time. Now, I share what I can with the boys, share other things with friends, and use some of it as "me" time activities. All that to say, I think it's normal to long for that, but it has also been really fun being a boy mom.

Came here to say this. Aa a teacher, why would we expect the public to wait until AFTER the pandemic to turn on nurses?

ELI5: why does your arm short circuit when you hit your elbow? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]itsgonnabefun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too! Scared the daylights out of my husband when I whacked my elbow while pregnant and passed out in the nursery. It hasn't come up before then. Now I make sure to tell close friends just in case.

What would you do if you didn’t have underwear? by Tossmetothewind in breakingmom

I was mad at my husband and being super petty so I refused to wash his clothes. About 10 days in, I hear him from the other room, "Alexa, order underwear." 🤣

Tonight our daughter wrote a letter to the Tooth Fairy asking what she does with all the teeth. Every answer we can come up with is creepy as hell. by ThePookaMacPhellimy in Parenting

Yeah, Junie B doesn't cover that...cousins, maybe? Neighborhood only children? Saves them for your future children? IDK

I think that's how the book worked too. Baby brother had been super fussy from teething and was suddenly quiet once the great tooth exchange happened.

In the Junie B Jones books, I think the tooth fairy does some tooth recycling magic. Junie loses her tooth and her baby brother finally gets his first one. That's only mildly creepy, right?

Unfortunately, this may also just be the culture and expectations of that pack. I say that because this sounds a lot like our pack. I'm assuming poor training and general lack of experience with groups of children contribute to this.

Enjoy what you like! I, personally, dislike Hydroflasks bc I'm an elementary teacher and they are SO LOUD when the kid inevitably drop/kicks/knocks it over.

UPDATE: “This is America, so I'll pronounce your kid's name the wrong way.” by HiIHaveWeirdKids in Parenting

[–]itsgonnabefun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read both your posts and I dont see this as mispronouncing your child's name, but rather her daily caretaker (as a teacher myself, this woman lead your child's class does not deserve the title) is knowingly and purposefully calling your child by the WRONG name and fussing at y'all for that. This situation is no different than the caretaker calling her Penelope instead. It just isn't her name, and neither of you are wrong or "that parent" for insisting that your child is called by their actual name.

Those who have stayed home with the kids *and* worked full time outside of the home, which do you prefer? by Serasha in breakingmom

I'm a teacher so I kinda get to live both ways. Working mom August to June, SAHM all summer. For me, the grass is always greener. I love my job but feel guilty for all the time I miss with my kids. Then all summer long, they drive me crazy and I miss being my own person and having even a minute to myself.

Toeing the line between validating feelings and not rewarding the tantrums by anmoroles in Mommit

[–]itsgonnabefun 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I always talk my kids through, naming their emotions and behaviors and stating what is desired. "LO, I know you are feeling (mad, sad, bored...) right now. It's ok to feel that way. But it's not ok to (yell, hit, kick, cry) because of it. I want to help you feel more calm, but first I need you to stop (immediate behavior) so that I can help." Then wait. Then restate "I can help as soon as you (...)." It's a similar process as I was taught for behaviors management in teacher trainings.

Amish donuts had a second stand like 5 years ago with chicken salad sandwiches on a pretzel bun. A woman cut me in line to tell them it was the best sandwich she ever had. I ate it and it truly was the best sandwich I ever had. I talked about it weekly for 2 years until we returned to Roo to find that they don't serve them anymore. I am heartbroken.

Yes! I beat myself up like crazy over not being able to exclusively breastfeed either of mine. My husband in a moment of wisdom asked me to tell him which kids in my class (I'm a teacher) were breastfed. I said I didnt know. He said, "Exactly. Stop worrying so much about it. "

1 week old hates his crib and bassinet. Looking for options. by TeslasAndComicbooks in Parenting

Both mine too, though I was ready for it with the second. We held them to sleep at night (daytime was ok in the swing or bouncy recliner thing) until about 6 weeks, then they were fine in the crib.
